I am minoring in Film Studies, but my honours major is Psychology. I am doing the two because I am going to do research which relates to both subjects. Anyway, Film Studies is fun and all, but it can be a lot of work sometimes. Not to mention if you major in it and don't end up wanting to do film you can't really do anything with the degree except maybe pursue a B.Education and teach. Then again, I have not really looked into any other potential jobs that involve just film studies. Some of the people that I have worked with who are majoring in film already work part time for small production companies during the summer, and some just straight up don't really care about what they are going to do and just want to have fun at Uni. If you want to pursue Film studies it might be best to do it as a Minor or Medial/Double Major. I love film, but I didn't want to be stuck without an academic degree. Psyc/film duality is also highly sought after in the advertising industry.
One other thing that just kind of sucks about Film right now is the economy and resulting budget cuts - the Film department is one of the first departments to get the major budget cuts. We can't repair or buy any equipment for the next 3 years. But that's just at Queen's.
