i was just watchin 54321 and they had a segment of a movie that a group made and it was all about telemarking freeskiers. all the stuff they were doing was pretty basic and old school sort of by our standards. anybody ever heard of this, or every tried it? i saw scrathes with tele bindings during the seg.

if i had the skills, i'd rather telemark than ski. its so much more of a challenge in the park, and as for the backcountry, its so much better shredding pow while free-heeling. but i dont have the skills, so i ski.

Free heeling is not dead dude. There are some sick rippers out there, and there not all old school. One of the rosii guy's throws super clean Corked 7 Safetys.

The only reason i don't is cause it's slower than normal skis. But to see good people who tear is a treat.

tele skiing takes sooooo much more talent then regular alpine skiing. i would love to see any of you alpiners throw a 180 on tele's and stickit.

ya, think about doing a rail with your heel moving around or up in the air, that's damn hard, and think about how they turn on stuff just as steep as any pro alpine guy is doing, tele guys have made skills man, they're a different breed for sure but i respect for shizzle for there commitment and dedication to a sport they love

theres that one dude whos in the ski movie series who hits rails and the pipe and shit on teles, its insane. and whoever said tele is gay or dead, you yourself can just die, cause youre a stupid motherfucker whos wasting oxygen so do a little community service and shoot yourself.

Well,in Solid powder 1 and propably in the second one too,Joonas Karhumaa rips it with teles. Highlight is a huge 180. That's such a cool trick.

no you go fuck yourself and die. think and research before you shoot off your mouth. tele was invented to cross snowy mountains. the heel is free to supplement travel over level and uphill terrain. going downhill is a compromise though, because tele was not made for fun or for tricks, it was made to get from point A to point B. the skiier is forced to bend deeply at the knee with each turn which is exhausting and inefficient from a biomechanics standpoint. The ONLY advantage to a tele setup is that, using climbing skins, a skiier can ascend, then ski down a slope, all using only tele gear. But today we have lifts, helicopters, sleds, cats and at the very least, snowshoes as well as lightweight, fat-waisted, high performance skis. All this means tele is pointless unless you are nostalgic and like to sweat alot, because tele is like pounding nails with a feather duster. ass.

I know a guy who is crazy good on teles. he rips. his tele pocket rockets cut through pow so good, and he did an awesome d-spin 7. he through lincolns off cliffs too, even urban rails....he is sick

^way up^ Bio mechanically? Wow. Deep knee turns are only one way of skiing with a free heel. There is also a shallow bend technique that is more powerful and more efficient, and requres about as much movement as a parallel turn. And if you don't think that there is biomechanical effort involved in typical fixed heel skiing, you are doing it wrong. Its not that its harder work, you are just using different muscles to turn on free heels.

Both the Telemark turn and the parallel turn are variations and advancement on the snowplow for better speed and control anyhow. With one, you move the uphill ski forward to have one long edge in contact with the snow, the other you move the uphil ski laterally to have one edge mostly weighted.

When a skiboarder rides a big line in two feet of powder he looks like an idiot. When a snowboarder is side-skidding down a steep mogul run he looks like an idiot. YET, when a telemarker barely cleans a simple 10 foot flat rail in the park he is hailed as a hero and put into dozens of ski movies.

I have never understood the double-standard surrounding newschool telemarkers. They purposely go out and spend thousands of dollars on equipment which they know is not suited for what they are doing, and are respected for it! In any other case on the mountain, this is idiocy.

I really don't give a flying fuck how much of a challenge it is. I could think of hundreds of things I could do to make riding more challenging. If I duct tape two helmets to my feet and ride down Coulier extreme will I get in the next ski movie? Will Salomon be calling me for a sponsorship if drop into the pipe wearing a straight-jacket? If I set the DIN on my bindings to 2 and started hitting 60 foot tables would I get a two page spread in Freeze? Not bloody likely.

To me, a cork 7 safety on skis is a cork 7 safety whether you are doing it on free-heels or not. Just because you are using inferior equipment doesn't mean you are going to get any more respect from me. And if it is fun to you that's fine. The skiboarder in two feet of powder is probably having fun as well. You both still look like idiots.

I tried to telemark once and it was mad crazy, I couldn't even think about a jump or the park let alone hit it up. i definetely have some hardcore respect for those guys, their shit may look dull but it's a hell of a lot harder than some of our most stylish tricks.
