One seat cusion rule?

This is a question mostly for the guys.... My friend Nicole and I always go to the movies together and the last time we went these two guys sat like three rows in front of us, they came in together but didnt sit next to eachother.... we thought maybe the dates had gone to the bathroom or something but they never came.... then we were told by our boss and a few other guys that when two guys go see a movie theres a "one seat cusion rule" so it doesnt look gay but its okay for two girls to sit right next to eachother...

i was wondering if this was really true or if my boss is full of shit lol.

it's not so much you dont wanna sit next to eachother, it's that you wanna have room to strech out.

by giving appropriate buffer zoneage you are allowed propper space to put your feet up in front of you, arms out to the seats beside you

thats what i thought, but it wasnt like either of these guys was that big to begin with... however my boss is a pretty big guy so i can see the more room needed with him

This occurence can be explained very easily:

Some people, when raised, have insecurities and fear they cannot be accepted for who they truly are. The only way for them to cope with these insecurities is to either lash out in strange ways, or learn to accept themselves like a sane person and live with it.

One very common form of coping with such insecurities is called Meathead Syndrome. It is when men feel they have to act tough or macho in order to be accepted by other males. They commonly act as hypochondriacs, but with homosexuality rather than an actual health issue. Other common names include jocks, rubes, and hockey players.

One very common issue they have is to exert their homophobia upon the world. Many anthropologists believe that living in constant fear of somebody suspecting you are homosexual is a sign that you are subconciously homosexual. Their mechanism against this homophobia is to act so predominantly male or "mocho", that people will naturally assume they are real men. This occurence is often the reason behind degradation of woman, for some men have been living in this state for so long that it is imbedded into their personality, and feel that being sensitive or sharing emotion is a sign that they are a homosexual.

When this pointless faux-pas is juxtapositioned with normal, healthy human behavior and presented to a Meathead, they will usually make some unrelated remark to deny that the behavior even exists in the first place.

Example:

"So you think that having emotions and being a human being makes you less of a man?"
"What kind of man cries? Shut up, faggot."

Another similar form of Meathead Syndrome is Short-Man's Complex. This is when a man is shorter than the average man and feels their lack in size makes them less of a man. In a sad attempt to counterbalence this insecurity, they will act just like a Meathead.

In short, as long as insecurites exist, the natural tendency to lash back in this odd form will exist as well.

you don't need to be a big guy to want to have a little extra space

ex. it doesnt matter if its a big guys leg or a little guys leg, if you wanna strech it out, rest it on the chair in front of you, there are only a few key places for one to put that leg.

and the buffer zone serves a great purpose - it gives you a place to put the bag of popcorn so that both of you can eat out of the bag without having the awkward, 'oh, you're holding it, but I want some' situation.

I don't know, I have no problems with sitting beside my bros, but im pretty space consuming and sometimes my bros don't want my elbows all up in their chill zone while we're chillin, so they might make me sit one cussion away :(

it's sometimes weird too because i take my pants off to watch movies, i hope you're allokay with that

I sit beside most of my friends guy or girl, except for one of my close buddies because then its just uncomfortable because we are both really big dudes, so some other person gets squisheded in the middle (i'm 6'2 245, he is 6'1 270)

yeah if two dudes go to the movies they sit with one empty seat between- gay space. and dudes bigger than like 5'10 - theres no way of avoiding contact with someone who sits beside you cause the the seats are small- and you don;t want to be rubbin on your buddy. thats gay.
