Lift Stories

Hey
People have post stuff about shit they saw on the lift in threads, but there is no thread for it all. So here it is. Post your lift stories, it can be anything at all. Heres mine.

I was going up the lift during night sking and it was dead silent because it was a pretty crappy night and no one was around. So I was sitting there by myself when all of a sudden I heard what soounded like a gun shot. I almost shat my pants. Turns out it was a tree that had been iced up by a snow gun and it couldn't take it anymore so it commited tree suicide and cracked off. Pretty cool.

Another time my friends and I were about to get on the lift and this guy flies by us and gets on the lift we were getting on. We didn't care and stopped and got the next one. So half way up the hill he lifts up the saftey bar thing and hurls himself off of the chair. He landed on his side and snapped a ski in the process. Then he picked it up and tried to ski off, but ski patrol caught time.

And there were a bunch of times when people have dropped shit off the lift of double ejected their skis some way, but thats really not a story.

This happened yesterday. So my mountain only had like a 1/4 of the mountain open, and there was a huge line for the double and the line wasn't organized at all, so my friends and I decided to go as singles and skip the 20 minute line. So both my friends get on as singles in front of me and I searched the line for singles. There's this snowbaorder chick that kinda standing by herself(not ugly, but certainly not hot), and looked at here and said, "you single?" she looks at me and says, "NO!!!" She turns around and grabs her boyfriend and puts him next to her. I laughed at her in her face.

3-4 years ago I went to a small ski area in NC on a weekday when no one was there. A patroller in the chair in front of me was trying to get a sled on the chair. The patroler tries so hard to get the sled on, but it falls, and he ended up falling too. It was so funny. He ended up grabbing onto the safety bar and sitting on it the entire way up. Heres a pic.

i have pissed off of lifts on more than one occasion :-D


When i worked for the Adaptive Ski Program on wintergreen, i watched the director, who was in a sit ski doing a demonstration, accidentally throw himself off the lift in the ski... he f#(% his sh1t up.

i help out at a adptive program, i once tried to unload some one in a sit ski without undoing the safty strap that attached it from the lift, the worst part was the girl in the sit ski had been doing it for years, needless to say i was rightously embarassed.

but i've never seen anyone thrown from a sit ski was he in it right?

iwas in ski club like 3-4 years ago. and this huge gaper martin was going nuts. and he said he loves to jump off the lift. we were like yeh ok w.e

so we get to the top and the fuker looks around and hucks it off the lift like 15 feet. double ejects...gets owned...lift stops...lifty comes out. by this time he is back in his skis(no poles) and is like "me speaky no english" and skis down.hahahaha...good old martin.

same kid...(just to get the idea of how this guy is)...grade8...art clas...DEAD silent...all u hear is martin get up...walk...see a chip on the ground... and he says"mmmmm a dorrito...CRUNCH" a CLASSIC chip crunch...and i am dying laughing.hahahha...i miss that kid.

2 years ago I was at Killington with my two friends when it was -40 and we were riding the chair that goes over Outer Limits and I dared one of my friends to stick his tongue to the bar. He takes a full on lick and sure enough, his tongue gets stuck. He kept it there the whole ride up and when we got to the top I yanked the bar up, taking his tongue with me. He screams out in pain and his tongue starts bleeding. I look at the bar and there is skin from his tongue glued to the bar. It was hilarious

I doubt that anyone will get to this...but

One time I took my little brother with me to the slope when he was sick...real sick...we're going up the lift and he turns to me all green in the face and says Im gonna puke...I point his head off the lift and he just spews his guts out...Im watching this snowboarding coming close to the stream...just when he sees it he goes "ahhhhh spewage", and runs right over it...I told my bro that he should have held it just or a second longer...

Another time am skiing down to the park and the lift goes over the narrow entrance (about 5ft wide blocked by snowgate)...just then the boarder spits rigt on my jacket...I screamed at him and he asked me what I was going to do about it...so I said come down and Ill show ya...I stood behind the snowfence and when he entered the park I swung like ARod at his face with my pole...I hit him so hard that his goggles broke and he started bleeding right away...shattered my pole too...and witnesses to all of this were some twntprs on lift right abovce me cheering...I felt bad, but he asked for it...

i love it when you go in the singles and get on with these gaper families that only go a couple times a year and they get on their fuckin 2 way radios to see where there kids are at and shit its so funny to hear some of the things that the people say and talk about the whole chairlift ride

One time when i was at Smuggs Notch i was on this one chair lift that has two loading point to get off and i wasn't paying attention and all of a sudden i hear a crack and i look down at my poles and they were cracked in hafe. I don't like to ride without poles so when i get to the top i look for some. I see some and then get out of there. So the poles are holing up and i go up the same lift like 2 hours later and as im going up, and some Ski Patrol people yell at me that I got one of the ski patrol guys pole so im like no I don't and there like yes u do. Im thinking of what they could do to me.When i get off the lift some person comes up to me takes the poles from me and gives me and bad look, that was it. But i was at the top and i had no poles i was like fuck. My friends of coarse wanted to do the black hole which is one of the hardest runs there and i didn't want to loss them so i go. About hafe way down i think i can't do this, so i break of some big branches and use them as poles to get down, it was a sick run pretty much. When i get to the bottom i ditch the branches and look for some new ones not learning my lesson and find some nice fiber glass one and get out of there again and scores some really nice pole which I still have today.

i lifted up the bar with a dad and a kid on the lift next to me apparently to early and the dad just shoved me after we got off the lift i sprayed him halfway down the mountian...but i got the little girl more...but he was more pissed than she was so i was satisfied

I was riding avila like usual and once when i was in the chair with a couple of my buddies we looked ak the people in the park hitting the 3 jumps. Suddentlyat the top ofthe hill we saw an old dude tryingto be cool and had thight peants with matchstick skis, he hit the second jump without having enough speed and landed in the middle on the flat staight as a bar and was leaned too much forward so his skis stayed at the ground at the same place without moving at all while the dude flew threw the air face down the hill at the horizontal and passed over the landing without touching it. It was so freaking funny cause where he landed on the flat none of his skis moved to the ground and him passed over all the landing while the guys at the tops of the hill werelaughing their lungs out

7 people tried getting on a quad once. I was on a chair once with this old lady and her ski 2 other ski group/student people. At the top I asked ifI could put the bar up, the lady was like, "When you're a guest on a chair lift you wait for the other people to offer..." by now we're off the lift but she continues" to open the bar, it's common ski lift courtesy..." Then I left. She was dumb.

alright so this gaper in a starter jacket and jeans basically cuts everyone in the lift-line off, but he was incredibly huge so this one like college age snowboarder called him out and the guy was like what are you gunna do. so then the snowboarder was about half a dozne chairs a head of me and we see the guy skiing down the trail. the snowboarder drilled him in the face, granted it's a low lift, but that was clutch. the guy played it off cool, but as I'm riding down the trail (the only one open since it was early in the season) it was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. the gaper comes running out of the woods and tackles the snowboarder who was doing a butter. then the two start fighting and the skier kicked the shit out him. like the snowboarder was bleeding all over.

one time i got on the lift and then somehow caght my edge and fell like 10 feet into this pointless hole with and inch of snow in it. thought my ankle was broken because it somehow twisted in my boot. i figured out that day that ski patrol sleds dont work uphill

two seasons ago it was icy as fuck at killington and i was riding up the canyon quad, some guy falls, keeps sliding down the ice under the lift, and goes over a cliff band, he didnt survive.

I've got 3 to add here.

First one happened at my home hill. They have two T-bars running side by side, and my brother and I were riding up one of the two, when we heard this snap, and a grinding noise. Over on the other t-bar, one of the t-bars had come off of the cable, and was sliding backwards down the cable in a shower of sparks, with a pair of scared looking older guys holding on for dear life. Finally, they ended up slamming into the t-bar behind them.

the second one happened on a school trip to the same hill. My friends and I were riding up the chair, when one of them yelled at this girl who was learning to snowboard and was straightlining down the main run out of control. When my friend yelled at her, she looked up the chair we were on, the nose of her snowboard dug in, and she ended up doing 4-5 cartwheels down the hill before sliding to a stop.

final one happend at marmot basin, my brother and I were riding the t-bar because it had no lineups, compared to 5 or so for the chair. since there were no lines, my brother and I were riding seperately, behind this group of 3 girls on snowboards. Those that have taken that t-bar know that it starts off pretty steep before flattening out, and just as the first pair of girls got over the steep part, one fell, and managed to hit the girl who was on the t-bar with her. The two of them were tangled up sliding uncontrollably backwards down the t-bar path, and they hit their friend, and all 3 of them ended up sliding down the steep part towards my brother and I. My brother didnt have enough time to react, and got hit too, but luckily I got outta the way. By the time the ball of people reached the bottom, 8 people had fallen/been hit. The sight of the mess was so awesome I couldnt function from laughing so hard for about 5 minutes.

haah nice lift story's...
i was on the lift when i was like 5 or something and i fell, only about 10 feet or so above ground, but my dad caught me by my hood, and my skis were so old they still had those coil spring bindings, and the liftie said, " hey no cross country skis on the hill" and my dad told him they werent they were just so damn old.

when i was mad young i was wearing one of those ski suits. When i went to get off the lift my belt like think got caught on the side of the lift. I couldent get off teh lift and I started going back down the mountain hanging on bye a little peace of cloth before the lift attendent finnaly noticed. I was pretty sure i was gonna die.

Me and My friend Brought snowballs on the lift and hit a ski patrol guy while night skiing. the funny part was there was ski patrol 2 chairs back from us so we had to out run him. we got far enough away and hid in the woods

when i was like 8 i was on the old t-bar at sunshine and at the top the bar got caught underneath the back of my jacket and i tried to just slide off the side of the bar, but it ended up catching in my jacket. I got dragged kicking and screaming behind the t-bar up and over the huge snowbank they had at the end before the lifty stopped it and helped me.

oo another one, last year i was on WaWa chair at sunshine, and right underneath the chair there was like a tiny jump. And these 3 snowbladers go to like train it, and the first one hits and just flails through the air onto his face. The next one hits and sees his friend laying right on the landing and so he flails and lands right on top, and the 3rd one did the exact same thing. I just laughed soooo hard and so did everybody on the chair. I bet they felt like shit having like 50 people laughing at them, but still the Funniest thing id ever seen

i once saw timzilla standing in that small park at stratton that's underneath the gondola (about 40ft). he fired a snowball up into one of the cars -- through the tiny ass window, into a group of six angry people. one in a million shot.

Once I was on a double chair with my friend and we were rocking the chair like crazy and when we reached a lift pole we almost derailed the whole chair, It scared the fuck out of me

Oh and

Another time I was in the lift at my local resort and the t-bar runs next to it. The t-bar goes over a trail and the people going down have to watch out for the people on the tbar. So anyways this gaper was going down that trail and got hit in the head by a vacant t-bar. He falls down and the guy on the next t-bar tripped on the gaper. I laughed for like 5 minutes

one time, i was two chairs back of my freinds, and they decide to bounce the lift. they bounced it so much they derailed the fuckin thing. Cable popped right off the tower, and it was the oh shit feeling, everybody dropped like 10 feet...they were over a real low spot, so their chair hit the ground, they broke some ribs and stuff, and the ski patrol had to rope everybody off the lift.
had some texan tell me his entire life story while he blazed a huge blunt going up gmx at sugarbush. pretty epic.

well this ones a gondola story.

So me my friend and his cousin are gettin in the gondola at stratton, and these 3 college chicks join us. We say hi and everything and start talking on the way up and then out of no where one of the girls is just like 'do you guys care if we smoke a doobie?'. We were like please go right ahead. So me and my friend think his cousin is straight edge, but then outta no where he starts rippin the j when the girls pass it over. So we all end up gettin ripped boxin this gondola with these college chicks haha.

Moral of the story : Everyone in vermont smokes pot

my jacket somehow got caught on the chair so when i went to get off i was hanging in the air and the lift just kept on going and i was like 10 20 feet in the air and they had 2 come get me it was fucking halarious

on the top of madonna 1's lift at smuggs the lift swings around real quick after you get off. anyways i cut off my friend real bad and pushed him or something. he got caught up in the lift and spun around real fast on the turn around. he was tangled up and stuff and they had to stop the lift. he got really angry.
