hey im getting my skis changed to like 100% center whats the name for it like, dead center?

thanx alot. kus im gettin my invaders mounted. and i want them like backwards so 1 forwards and one backwards. are most ski places aloud to do that?

Keep in mind carving performance is greatly affected by centre mounting. Manufacturers have mount lines for a reason and going too far forward changes the sidecut and makes anything but park quite strange. There are people who do it and claim no adverse changes. My advise is if you centre mount use a ski 5-10cms longer than normal and all round skiing won't be that bad. If the ski is destined for nothing but park go for it and have fun jibbing it up.

On the invaders, core center is the same as the reccomended mounting point, which is the same as true center, which is the same as dead center.
If they don't mount them there, you probably shouldn't let that place touch your skis again.

what about people that ride center mounts and ski pipe (do pros?)... how can they carve that much if the ski isnt good at carving with the way the binding is mounted

I'm pretty sure it's actually called CORD CENTER not core center. Center mounting makes the ski initiate and turn super quick but gives up stability. It also gives you a longer tail than normal for stomping airs. the tip tends to dive more in powder and you'll find yourself leaning back to compensate which is just bad technique and looks gay. But if they're just park skis do it cause they'll spin like tops and be balanced.

alright, check it. there is a cord center. i forgot what the name originated from, but it's basically the traditional mount, where the ski is divided into thirds. this is located (on most skis) behind the core center, which is the thickest part of the core. then there is the true center of the ski. on most skis (not invaders because they're perfectly symmetrical) this is ahead of core center, located at the exact middle of the ski if you measured it with a ruler. this seriously isn't difficult.

I got my dorions mounted at 7+ suggested mark. They are really good. I would take my pe's into be moutned further up but i don't have money.

i cant take him[liam downey] seriously cuz his name reminds me of that downy bear from back when i was a kid -d loc

I don't deny there are bad things in the US right now, hell, 51% of the country to be exact. But god damnit, our country being fat is NOT a problem. I do't give a shit how fat people are. hell, fat kids are harder to kidnap, that means our country is safer.

Still sticking to my Chord center comment fellas, I've been around lots of ski shops and mounted many skis. (chord: a straight line joining two points of a curve). That's an interesting remark about the thickest part of the ski, did you just make that up? I might be wrong but I've never heard of that before.

the invader is perfectly symmetrical. has to be mounted center. its ok to mount one backwards. the four hole pattern marks the center of the ski, if they didnt put your binding around the 4 holes, the y are stupid

Traumacrew hasn't been around many shops that mounted twins obviously.

It's core center bro...check the side of a K2 factory ski, it says it right on the mounting area.

Invaderman,
You can mount one ski forward and one backward, I have it done with my invaders and several other people I know have it done with their invaders. You won't have to tell them where to mount the ski because the mounting mark on the topsheet is already at the true center, which is, incidentally the core center on the invader.

If you have any other questions about the invaders just send me a pm. I've been skiing them since february and have mounted a bunch of them already.

Just do a search on this site for core center.

The rest of the skiing world doesn't know/care about core center. They mount their skis at traditional midsole. Doing an internet search for core center wouldn't prove anything. It's context is confined to park skiers who care about switch skiing performance.

I'm not saying that there's no such thing as "cord center" but it doesn't have anything to do with what people are talking about here.

I'm simply stating that it is incorrect to talk about core center when the actual term is chord center. Searching the site that is using the incorrect term is pretty useless considering it is this site using the incorrect terminology. I didn't say anything about chord center being where you want to mount your bindings, I only stated that the core center is the incorrect term. But anyways it doesn't really matter so peace out.

Dude, YOU ARE USING THE WRONG TERM!

Take a look in the k2 tech manuals at all the "shops you hang out at" where you mount skis and such.

Look at the mounting marks on a public enemy, fujative, seth pistol, made'n ak, seth vicious....you'll see a nice little mark called "Core Center"

But hey, don't take it from me...do the homework and feel stupid.

Actually I got to thinking and you are right about K2 using the name core center and i do remember seeing that on the side of their skis. I'm not trying to start shit here. But a lot of other brands and people do use the term chord center. But you are right.

if anyone of you actual takes math here, cord center actually is correct. cord is the transition point on a curve, basically the apex of the curve...in other word, mounting the binding at that point would place you in the center of the curve and not to the ski.

On this note...

Rossignol has the "freeride" and "freestyle" mounting lines. Is freestyle dead center, and freeride the suggested point?

EVERYONE is correct. there is a CHORD center, there's also a CORE center, and there's a DEAD center. CHORD center is the traditional mounting area. i'm not sure exactly how it works, but ski makers used to determine the mounting line by dividing the ski in thirds and doing some other fancy stuff, then making the line called CHORD center. many manufacturers still do this, so on your ski (unless you're rocking 4frnts or some rider owned brand), chances are that CHORD CENTER is the same as TRADITIONAL MOUNTING LINE or MIDSOLE MOUNTING LINE. then there's CORE CENTER: this is the thickest part of the core, which is usually forward of the CHORD CENTER. then there's DEAD CENTER, the exact middle of the ski. for park, you'll want to mount your skis at CORE CENTER, DEAD CENTER, or ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN, you pick! CHORD CENTER is pretty far back for newschool riding; i wouldn't recommend it. what i personally do is just decide where i want them, measure carefully, draw a line with a little arrow so the tech knows which end of the ski is the front, and say "MOUNT THEM HERE." terminology isn't important. put them where you want!


and for the guy with the question about scratches, the traditional line is chord center, the modern line is a bit forward of that, but still not dead center.

the point of all this, get a measuring tape because this stuff isn't hard to figure out, sorry i made such a long post.

Ride1080 made a great post. And when he said draw a line for the tech to mount them, its where you want the middle of the binding, not the heel or toe piece.

^he can mount them backwards if he wants because the skis are symmetrical in EVERY aspect, including the thickness of the core when it's milled. it's EXACTLY the same forwards and backwards so why not do it?

...because it's gay. it's like this new fad. Like I saw a pair of Mad Trix in the shop one day and it said that you can moun them backwards. So now I've been seeing kids with Mad Trix mounted backwards because the label says if you mount them fowards, it's good for offtrail skiing. if you mount them backwards, it's good for big air I mean what is that shit?

I live in a place far far away, where on occasion the telly tubbies will come to play....and that's when Ma gets out the shotgun. Damn critters climb in our gutter system all the time.

The original mad trix could be bought with the reversible plate so you could go from Big Mountain, which has soooo much nose, to big air which has sooooo much tail. I'm sure everyone already knew that though.

If you mount them more forwards, you have a sidecut that isn't in line with your mid sole of your boot. If you mount them backwards, you can still carve and everything just fine.
