Boot Liners, Fitter's Help Please.

Boots. I hate buying ski boots.
I got fitted at the best shop in the UK and got Full Tilts in the end, even though I didn't particularly want them, they were the best fit for my foot by a long way. I used to have some Head Mojos which were far too wide but held my heels nicely.

I've skied the Tilts around 3 weeks and while the fit on my foot is perfect, I find the ankle hold of the Intuition liner isn't good enough. I've been back to the shop and they've tried to mold in extra ankle hold but it hasn't worked. I still get heel raise when I butter/press and it hurts. I didn't in my old boots even though they were a size bigger and the wrong fit on my foot.

I've concluded that the problem is the liner. When I tried putting my old liners in the new boots the hold was massively better, but obviously the liner is too big for the boots. I want to replace the wrap liner with a regular liner with good heel hold, but I don't know anything about buying liners separately. What liners can I buy? I don't really want a full custom liner, an off the shelf liner is probably good enough!

I know in this situation Onenerdykid would usually recommend a footbed, have you got one? And freezeproshop is not the best shop in the uk.

mmm thats a tough one. as posted above always have a footbed in your boot. But I totally understand where your coming from, the intuition liners never hold ankles that well in my personal experience, but they are the warmest and most comfortable. I know they make a liner with a tongue and a bit more rigid backside of the liner (like a stiffer power wrap i think they call it) which may help. Also I personally feel the design of the FT isn't the best at holding your ankles down since the design of the boot is 3 piece. On top of that they use cables which makes the combination not too great, I feel my ankles not as supported in the boot just like you because of the middle cable. Try making the buckles a little tighter, that may help.

Especially that middle cable because that's the one that's gonna be holding your ankle down in the boot. Also try cranking that top buckle a little bit. I think my next boot is going to be a more free ride style boot like a nordica patron or something like that because that boot holds my ankles really well, but my bumble bees are so damn comfortable! lol

Scarpa liners is the same thing as intuition, not much help but here's a link. The problem is a lot of people are actually putting intuition liners and what not into they old or even new boots because they love the comfort and not many people are doing the opposite. Every boot comes with a liner but I hardly ever have people ask to get them a replacement liner. I hate to say it but you may want to look into a new boot or a different style boot. You can always make a boot bigger, tough to make one smaller. Here's Scarpa's link

Hope some other people have some more helpful input seeing as I didn't help that much but that's my 2 cents on the subject. Good Luck man, keep me posted I'm interested to see if there is a fix.

I'm aware, I didn't go to freeze. Also, I thought about those pro-liners but ideally would want something cheaper than $200. I tried with the liner of my sister's boots which also felt better. I might just have a look on Ebay for some narrow boots with a regular liner and go from there. Footbed doesn't help at all, I do have one but it makes the heel hold worse not better.

For starters, is the shop putting on special J or C shaped pads to your ankle area? Or just remolding the liner again and again?

Secondly, the fabric lining that is Intuition uses is very slippery. Sometimes this is a good thing as you can get in and out of your boots really easily but it also means the fabric isn't grabbing a hold of your sock/foot the way normal lining material does. This is probably why your old liner feels better.

But, start with the pad question. If they add the right pads to your ankle area, you should honestly be ok...

Sorry I thought you were from Edinburgh. And @ONK would it be worth trying to get some of those j pads? I only have heel lift when I try to butter hard. Not a problem otherwise.

For sure it will help as it will only push the ankle foam around your ankle that much more. They will just make your ankle area feel more secure in general, which is always a good thing in my opinion.

Also, if you have a good boot-fitter who likes to create things, he/she can shape raw foam to your exact needs. Special pads above and behind your ankle can really make a huge difference in your boot's responsiveness and overall foot hold.

They remoulded the liner with some heel cups in to try and pinch the liner more around my heel. I think the slippy fabric might be part of the problem. But the old liner definitely has more built in heel hold as well (Head Heatfit liners). Does anyone sell just relatively stock boot liners, I don't really like much about the intuition ones so far.

Did they put on a piece for heat molding then remove it, or did they permanently put on an additional piece? The first option won't do much but the later option will.

they left the piece in the boot, it didn't seem to keep my foot down though, just made the lifting more painful. It's like a plastic heel cup but I don't know the word.

that sounds weird... normally, there should be J-shaped pieces of foam that are glued on to the outside of the liner, both medial and lateral sides. When done properly, all you should feel is a snuggle heel pocket without pressure/hot spots.

ok I can ask them to do something like that, i'll go back to the shop this week if possible. I just figured a new liner might be easier. I don't suppose atomic sell any of their stock liners seperately?

(I also don't like that the intuition doesn't really leave much volume for a footbed) where a normal line with a removable footbed does.

We do actually and we have 2 98mm options available- a Redster Pro (not World Cup race) and a Tracker liner. If your shop stocks either boot, they can put one in for you to feel what it is like.

Mine have the pro liner but it doesn't work for me. Ideally I want to work on a mish mash boot, that atomic Tracker liner sounds like it might work pretty well. I'll check it out in store as well as ask about J-Shape foam inserts. I always sort of planned to get a regular liner for them but wanted to check the intuition didnt work first.

This^ with the J bars and a butterfly wrap behind your ankle might not hurt either.
