For me at least, X Games Real Ski is the high point of the skiing contest calendar. When drop day rolls around, we get six of the craziest street edits imaginable, all at once. They are often so different that judging them makes comparing the relative merits of slopestyle runs (no easy task) seem like a walk in the park. The crew tasked with making the call this year was made up of Josh Berman, Vincent Gagnier, Tom Wallisch, Ahmet Dadali and Newschoolers' very own EHeath. Reports from the judging room suggest the results were reached pretty unanimously, unlike last year where the judging caused far more debate. I'd be surprised if we see much, if any, backlash against the results this time round, but you never know. Without further ado, I give you the Real Ski podium:
Gold and Fan Favorite Award: Phil Casabon
Silver: Antti Ollila
Bronze: Keegan Kilbride
Phil is arguably the greatest of all time when it comes to street skiing. He's dropped some of the heaviest footage each year for most of the last decade. He was on a mission for this year's Real Ski and consequently put out one of the craziest minutes of street skiing ever seen. His part is a candidate for the best Real Ski of all time and in this year's contest it was, in most people's eyes, a clear winner. He also took home the fan favorite award with a landslide 55.2% of the vote. To me, Antti was the only guy to push Phil close. He also had plenty of completely bonkers shots in his cut but I think most people, himself included, will be stoked to see him get the silver medal. Keegan, who supposedly filmed his edit in just a couple of weeks on a single trip to Minnesota rounds out the podium having dropped 20 foot plus to flat landings from more rails than anyone I've ever seen before.
Remember, you can vote until 11:59pm on Sunday for viewers' choice, so keep mashing that button for your favorite entry. We'll have the winner of that for you on Monday.
