The Newschoolers Open, the biggest online freeski contest of the year, returns for 2023, presented once again by Auclair Gloves. The contest gives two talented winners the chance to take home $2000 each, as well as the option of a spot on Team Auclair Gloves for 2023.
Last year saw a bunch of fantastic entries and we are stoked to bring the event back this season. We have made a couple of big changes, aimed at leveling the playing field. Firstly, we won’t be allowing tricks filmed in the context of a competition, so as not to give a huge advantage to skiers on the competition circuit. Secondly, you will be able to enter the first part of the contest through Instagram just by tagging #NSopen2023 @auclairsports and @newschoolers. The final stage, public voting, will take place on Newschoolers.
When we launched this event last year, we talked about the downfall of open and independent freeski events, and with FWT selling to FIS in 2022, another door appears to be closing. We are stoked, therefore, to be able to bring the NS Open back and to try and level the playing field a little once again. We’re also fired up to be able to include Quebec this season as we have finally got to the bottom of the legal situation there.
Along with our resort-specific King & Queen of the Park contests, we wanted to create something which allows for the largest span of skiers to enter as legally possible. Auclair Gloves have been the perfect partner for us to announce the 2023 Newschoolers Open with, allowing for a continent-wide open video contest with the grand prize winners for the men & women taking home $2,000 each.
We want to see your five best tricks, from any terrain park in North America. Both our judges and the voting audience will have a say in who takes the win. Speaking of judges, X Games and Olympic medalists, as well a street skiing bosses, Kim Lamarre @gUrLsKiEr , Edouard Thierrault (@edjoy_), and Alex Beaulieau-Marchand @abmskier will be joining the NS team on the panel. They are three of the best-known freeski faces on the Auclair team and we're stoked to have them cast an expert eye on all the entries for this one. Our judging team will pick their five favorite entries in each category, which will then be voted on by the public, and scored individually by the judges to pick the two prize winners.

Here's how it all works:
Offer up a video showcasing five (5) tricks of your choice. There’s only one round of submissions, voting, and judging, so make it count!
The Basic Rules:
1) Submit your best five (5) tricks. Maximum one entry per participant.
2) You may edit together multiple different clips (your run doesn’t need to be continuous). Entries
can only be a maximum of ninety (90) seconds long on a REEL format on Instagram! Make sure
you use the hashtag #NSopen2023, and tag @auclairsports and @newschoolers.
3) Multiple angles may be used, but at least one clip of each trick must show the full trick from
takeoff to landing.
4) All tricks need to be filmed inbounds at an open resort’s terrain park
5) All tricks need to be filmed in the year 2023
6) Only raw audio files may be used. No music or sound effects allowed.
7) Entries that include tricks performed at in a ski competition, whether in practice, qualifiers or
finals, will be disqualified.
The Key Dates:
The contest has two stages, the first for submitting entries, and the second for voting and judging.
Stage One (Entries): From the contest opening date on January 13, 2023 at 12:01 AM
EST to Mar 12, 2023 at 11:59 PM EST.
Stage Two (Voting and Judging): March 14, 2023 at 12:01 AM EST to the contest closing date on March
17, 2023 at 11:59 PM EST.
Judging Criteria:
The Newschoolers Judges will judge submissions based on the following criteria:
25% on Creativity of the Video
25% on Public Voting
50% on Judges’ Overall Impression of the Video.
Prizing:
$2000.00 (USD) each to the winners (female) and (male), plus an invitation to the winners to join Team Auclair for the 2022-2023 season.
Eligibility:
To enter this contest, you must be the age of majority in your home province/state at the time of your submission and be a legal resident of Canada / United States. P.S.: Quebec residents can hop on the contest this year.

Les Québécois et francophones de la communauté seront heureux d'apprendre que le Newschoolers Open, présenté par Auclair, acceptera la participation des résidents du Québec cette année. Auclair et Newschoolers sont d'accord que le calibre de skieurs au Québec mérite d'être reconnu. Ainsi, nous sommes fiers d'inviter les Québécois à participer à la compétition cette année !
Voici le résumé des règlements :
Envoyez-nous une vidéo présentant cinq (5) figures de votre choix et affrontez les meilleurs skieurs de Newschoolers dans ce concours. Il n'y a qu'une seule série de soumissions, de votes et de jugement, alors faites en sorte de donner le meilleur de vous-même !
1) Soumettez vos cinq (5) meilleures figures. Une soumission par participant.
2) Vous pouvez éditer ensemble plusieurs clips différents (votre course n'a pas besoin d'être continue). Le clip doit durer au maximum quatre-vingt-dix (90) secondes en format REEL sur Instagram ! Assurez-vous d’utiliser les mentions #NSopen2023, @auclairsports et @newschoolers
3) Plusieurs angles peuvent être utilisés, mais au moins un clip de chaque tour doit montrer le tour complet du décollage à l'atterrissage.
4) Les vidéos doivent être filmées à l'entrée du parc à neige d'un complexe ouvert.
5) Tous les clips doivent être filmés en 2022.
6) Seuls les fichiers audios bruts peuvent être utilisés. Pas de musique ou d'effets sonores autorisés.
7) Les participations qui incluent des figures performées dans le cadre d’une compétition, que ce soit durant les séances de pratique, durant les qualifications ou durant les finales, seront disqualifiées.
Le concours comporte deux étapes, la première consiste à soumettre les candidatures et la seconde à voter et juger.
Première étape (inscriptions) : de la date d'ouverture du concours le 13 janvier 2023 à 12:01 AM EST au 12 mars 2023 à 11:59 PM EST.
Deuxième étape (vote et jugement) : du 14 mars 2023 à 12:01 AM EST à la date de clôture du concours le 17 mars 2023 à 11:59 PM EST.
Critères à suivre pour les juges :
Les juges Newschoolers jugeront les soumissions en fonction des critères suivants
25 % sur la créativité de la vidéo
25 % sur le vote du public
50 % sur l'impression globale des juges sur la vidéo.
Prix : 2000,00 $ (US) chacun aux gagnants (femme) et (homme), plus une invitation aux gagnants à se joindre à l'équipe Auclair pour la saison 2022-2023.
Admissibilité : Pour participer à ce concours, vous devez avoir atteint l'âge de la majorité dans votre province/état de résidence au moment de votre soumission et être un résident légal du Canada/États-Unis.
