Two of the last three years, Wild Mountain, a small midwest hill on the Minnesota/Wisconsin border just Northeast of the Twin Cities became the first resort in North America to open its slopes for skiing and snowboarding.

Now, as resorts report their first snowfall across the mountain west, Wild Mountain also begins to speculate if they'll be ready to welcome back riders by October 18th, 2023, the same date that last year, marked the opening day of the 22/23 season.

Historically, Colorado resorts including Wolf Creek, Arapahoe Basin, and Loveland have frequented the list of being 'the first resort to open'. Now, with Colorado receiving its first dusting of snow to start the week, and the Farmer's Almanac prediction of an El Niño winter and higher-than-average snowfall for Colorado leads skiers stirring in their seats.

Similar to Wild Mountain, Arapahoe Basin also took to Facebook on Tuesday morning to tease that they too are setting their sights on cooler, snowmaking temperatures.

While we (and everyone else) continue to speculate and pray for cold temperatures with snowfall, don't forget to sit back, enjoy the fall season, and catch a ski movie premiere near you.
