Day one action from the 2005 US Open in Vail, CO.  Qualifying continued for it's second and final day in the slopestyle contest with the afternoon ending with a Last Chance Qualifier as the light started to get flat. The final roster for tomorrow's semi-finals and final will be a mix of the up and comers and established guys and gals - some, like John Symms and Pep that are recently off of injury will be looking to throw down and get good results. The course consists of a fairly ghetto rail section (including the use of a broken rail from last year's comp) that leads into three big booters.  The jumps were large and well-shaped and stood up well against the onslaught of skiers they faced throughout the day. To say the rail section at the top of the course is disappointing would be an understatement. It's definitely not the kind of setup that facilitates showcasing where rails are today in sking. Despite the course imperfections the comp went off today and skiers are the throwing down. The weatherlooks perfect for tomorrow and NS will do our best to have results online as soon as possible. Big Air happens Saturday night and Halfpipe is set for Sunday. Keep checking back for the latest.
