Based on the initial numbers from SIA, skier numbers were up by around 4% in the 2014/15 season, with the same percentage rise in the number of snowboarders.

Why should you care? Well hopefully it’ll help stop your local resort going out of business for one thing. But perhaps more interestingly, the number of people who describe themselves as primarily freeskiers is up by 10%. While freeskiing has been on the rise, almost since its conception, this is above trend growth. Perhaps we have the Olympics to thank for that, we may never know for sure. More on this as the numbers are released, hopefully we’ll see a proportional increase in sales for freeski brands when they are.
