News reports are saying that professional skier Jamie Pierre died on Sunday. It appears that he triggered an avalanche in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, which swept him off a rock. Although he wasn’t buried in the resulting slide, he was pronounced dead on the scene by rescuers.

He had a long career with film segments that included Teton Gravity Research, Matchstick Productions, Level 1, Wind Up Films and Warren Miller Entertainment. He also set a cliff drop record after stemming a 245-foot drop at Grand Targhee Resort, Wyoming. Clearly a career with many highlights as he’s left his impression on the skiing world in many ways.

As more information comes in I’ll be updating this post but for the moment, this is all I know. My condolences to his family and friends…
