Japanese Skier Akira Sasaki and his band of volunteers from the Skiers Helping Japan Group took to the ocean and out to a forgotten island that hasn’t received any federal support yet. Ravaged by Earthquake and tsunami, the population has been left to fend for themselves for months.

Skiers Helping Japan, Japanese farmers, ferry operators, restaurant chefs, ski fans and professional skiers from many disciplines came together to make the first mission a great success. Massive amounts of food, drinks and equipment were hauled from lands afar and prepared for the residents, all of whom had 2 days of prepared meals and smiles!

This is an example of global citizenry in action, coming together to help those in need. Very sweet, very heartwarming in a world where we’re constantly blasted by negative media images.

Way to go skier community!
