This year, with the awards going fully virtual (shout out to Swany Gloves @ON3P & @Windells for making these awards possible), we wanted to take some opportunity to shed some clarity on the judging. @Twig and @curt_ had LJ Strenio, Alex Hackel & Xavier Mayrand in the proverbial booth with them and the conversations took multiple days. We all loved the narrative and vibe of The Lake Effect. Crescendo was probably Good Company's best movie to date. A proper, classic ski movie. Kamase saw Sammy C do what he does best, in spades.

But ultimately, it came down to two Daycare & Magma 3. We all loved both movies and while they both represent the skiing we cherish most, they go about it in totally different ways. Magma represents the technical creme de la creme of film skiing, offering bonkers tricks in both the streets and the sidecountry. Daycare goes a completely different direction, offering up probably THE most unique spots and creative trick selection ever seen in a ski movie. The discussion was a LONG one, it split the panel. Ultimately, it came down to a vote (from which LJ abstained, just FYI). All five of the movies are fantastic, and either of these two would have been a worthy winner, but it's Daycare that takes home the 2023 Movie of the Year award. Congratulations to @WIllW @PRing and the whole crew, it's an absolute banger.
