In late 2017, Henry Crown & Company, owners of Aspen Ski Company purchased Intrawest, Mammoth Mountain, and Squaw-Alpine. HCC later made statements, hinting towards a new mega ski corporation sure to raise a few corporate eyebrows at Vail Resorts Today, Henry Crown & Company announced the creation of Alterra Mountain Company, in partnership with KSL Capital Partners.

Alterra Mountain Company has a total of 12 ski destinations in 5 states, and 3 provinces, including the legendary Canadian Mountain Holidays (CMH) heli skiing operation in British Columbia. Alterra ski areas include Winter Park, Steamboat, Mammoth, June Mountain, Squaw-Alpine, Bear Mountain, Snow Summit, Snowshoe, Tremblant, Blue Mountain, and Deer Valley.

Aspen Ski Company is owned and operated by Henry Crown & Company, however Aspen is not part of the new partnership with KSL Capital Partners. Alterra will announce new season pass options in the following months, providing access to the resorts listed. With a far reaching location portfolio the new pass options will likely compete Vail Resorts’ Epic Pass.

Essentially, while Vail Resorts was focused on buying up Parkplace and Boardwalk, Alterra bought much of the rest of the board. Let’s just hope Alterra likes the idea of free parking.
