Halfpipe is burly as fuck. Yesterday the men threw down despite some issues with the shaded wall sending them to the flat bottom on more than one occasion, but the women didn't have the same issues today. Beautiful weather greeted the athletes once again, so it was clearly a good call to delay the event, and the women rewarded us with a great show. Eileen Gu came into the event as hot favorite, having got pretty lucky with the judging in taking the streetstyle win the night before, but there was a strong showing from across the field. It was a pity to only see five athletes drop, but they all crushed it, and we only really saw one crash score, which is mental.

Run 1:

Riley Jacobs opened things up with a full pull, a super clean switch 7 at the top and a forward 7 at the bottom being the highlights. Svea Irving stepped it up right away too, huge alleyoop 5 up top, clean 9 down the bottom but maybe missed the grab. 87.66 set a pretty high early bar though. Amy Fraser stomped back to back 9s but the grabs were a little wayward. Switch 7 japan was perfect though and she scored a huge 91.33. Zoe Atkin went in the total opposite direction, with a very technical run ending with a switch right 7 and bumping the scores to 94. Eileen Gu did what she does, went huge, back to back 9s up top, the only thing she left out was the mirrored alleyoop 5. 96.33 and she has more in the bag. Did the judges leave enough space?

Run 2:

Pipe being pipe, we saw lots of similar runs in run two. Svea got a little bucked in the transition riding switch on her final hit. Amy Fraser put down a solid second run but the grabs were looser. Adding the switch 9 up top meant she stomped three 9s. Zoe Atkin was pushing her limits trying to match Eileen's score, she was boosting but got a bit lost on a switch 7. Eileen, of course, added the right alleyoop 5 at the bottom... 97.66. She's basically unbeatable in pipe at this point.

Run 3:

That's not to say that the rest of the field didn't give it a solid shot. Amy Fraser was sending huge on the switch 9 and cleaned it up in the air, but it didn't quite stomp quite how she wanted which messed with her speed. Zoe Atkin was boosting and her run is probably the most technical, but the bottom hit switch right 7 went awry. That left Eileen with a victory lap, and she was sending but scrubbed on a right 7 blunt and called it a day. She might have got a little fortunate last night, but this was dominant.
