We’ll be celebrating making it through two decades of life with a 20th-anniversary awards ceremony and blowout party at Dew Tour. While most of the awards will be contemporary, we’ll also be taking a look back through our storied history and recognizing some of the key individuals who brought both our community, and skiing as a whole, to where we are today. The ceremony is brought to you by Toyota, Mountain Dew, 10 Barrel, Bulleit Bourbon, Smirnoff, Don Julio, Copper Mountain Resort, and Gilson Skis.

Gilson Skis is the official trophy sponsor. As such, each winner will walk away with a custom ski trophy by Gilson Skis.

The following awards will be given out on the night, and we’ll be announcing nominations for all the judged categories in the coming weeks.

Judged awards:

Newschoolers Skier of the Year - Presented by Toyota

Presented to the outstanding male and female skiers of the year, the Newschoolers Skier of the Year awards recognize those who have made the biggest impact on the ski scene in 2019. From the streets to contests to backcountry stunts, it’s been such a crazy year. Who should take the crown?

---

Breakthrough of the year - Presented by Gilson Skis

The breakthrough awards go out to two skiers who absolutely killed it during their first year in the mainstream spotlight. How you define who counts as a breakthrough act is ultimately subjective, but we see them as someone who has taken a step up and has had a major impact in the skiing community via a movie segment, edit, contest run, or any other medium.

---

Best Comp Jock

Love them or hate them, competitions are a huge part of the freeski world. We watch and cover all the major events, and there are some guys out there who make the whole process more enjoyable, courtesy of unique style or interesting trick selection. We wanted to recognize the fact that even though they often don’t come out on top of the podium, their skiing is often the most inspiring to us and the core ski audience.

---

Crew of the Year

One of the most important parts of skiing is being out on the mountain or in the streets with your friends. Crews have always been a backbone of the freeski content industry and the Newschoolers community. This award goes to the crew that has had the most impressive 2019, judged by their media output, most often a movie, from that time period.

---

Edit of the Year

Since the beginning, the ski edit has been the blood pumping through the veins of Newschoolers. We couldn’t have an awards ceremony without recognizing perhaps the most important part of ski media in our eyes. What exactly constitutes an edit is hard to define and we’ve given our judges significant leeway when it comes to saying what counts for this category.

---

Blue Baller - Best blue name edit

Our “blue name” users upload hundreds of hours of ski content each year and an unbelievable amount of it is seriously good. Their work is sometimes overshadowed by the pros of the industry so this award is to show recognition to the top blue name edit.

---

Ladies Choice - Best pink name edit

There are also a ton of ladies posting great content to Newschoolers. For this award, we’re asking our Lady Gabber to pick their favorite piece of content for the year.

---

Outstanding Video Project of the Year

We are considering all longer video projects that have been posted to Newschoolers as eligible for this award, which essentially comes down to everything except for the few major ski movies that still release on paid platforms. 2019 was a particularly strong year for content and even narrowing down a shortlist of nominations is bound to prove a challenge for this award.

---

Outstanding Contribution To Skiing 2019

Skiing needs more than just skiers doing stunts. There are people out there putting in work to help the industry thrive and all of those on our shortlist have done just that. If there’s one award that definitely deserves more than one winner, it’s this one.

---

Newschoolers Hall Of Fame

Sometimes you have to take a step back and recognize those who have played a huge role in both the ongoing success of Newschoolers and of freeskiing in general. Consider this award recognition for an outstanding contribution to both over the past 20 years.

Community awards:

Trick of the year

Trick of the year is nigh on impossible to judge. There is so much out there and so difficult to objectively compare that we’re turning this choice over to you guys. We want you to tell us what was the best trick of 2019, so keep an eye out for our poll towards the new year.

---

Style For Miles

Likewise, it’s hard to define what style is, though many have tried. We all have our favorites, so again, we’re taking the democratic approach and asking you guys: who was the most stylish skier of 2019?

---

Newschoolers Valedictorian

This one goes out to our community and those who make it what it is. We’ll be asking the community to elect a Valedictorian, the member who has brought the most to our site over the past year.

---

They See Me Trolling Award

Trolling has been a controversial cornerstone of NS since day dot. As a core part of the community, we’ve decided to include an award for the most successful troll of 2019 from anywhere on the internet.

---

Highest Rated Edit

This is a simple one.Our community watches more skiing than anyone, and rates it all. So what bigger honour is there than this award for the highest rated video on Newschoolers over the past 12 months.
