While snowboarders have been competing in the half-pipe for more than a decade, the pipe has been gaining popularity in the free-skiing ranks. In October of this year ESPN decided to add the Super-pipe as a new event to the 2002 Winter X-Games being held in Aspen, CO. The EXPN Super-pipe at Breckenridge, CO. was created as a last chance qualifier for competitors to prove they have what it takes to compete in this years X-Games. This event will also act as a qualifier for the U.S. Freeskiing Open in Vail, CO in late January. The Breckenridge pipe was voted as the best pipe in the country, in the 2001 Trans-world travel guide.
