The age old question of who decides what style is to program into this AI still exists..... what are we doing here? Also RIP to all the rad judges that get to tour around during comp season. Lotsa oldheads from NS in those roles now.

By that logic is Trek influencing the outcome because they have been on the top step of the podium six times? (Brandon’s 5 and one of Rheeders, which is like three times more than any other bike brand).
I would have to go back and watch each event carefully I suppose. I’d be the first to admit I’m not super educated about rampage. However the fact is that the title sponsor has put the athletes with redbull helmets on the podium the most times. Also, it’s an annual tradition at x and rampage to criticize the heck out of the judging; the best run is really in the eye of the beholder. Guess we’d have to run it through AI to validate of our opinions. Regardless, I’m curious to see this AI tech evolve. Hopefully it doesn’t damp down creativity too much. Cheers

xgames has a history of being early adopters to trends and quickly moving away from them if it doesn’t work. they introduce and also remove events all the time so i wouldn’t be surprised if this is short lived. i mean real ski came and went and so did things like super modified shovel racing. don’t trip homies. judges will be back in a year is my guess.

Real ski should never have went. TBH if you ask me which medal meant the most in terms of X games ski, I'd put real ski right at the top. Highest risk, most expression of creativity, extreme grind. I get that it just wasn't as marketable as other events, but still what a 'for the culture' thing to have.
I'm not sure these models will really work... Deep nets always suffer from the problem that if a input is too far away from the training data, they don't know how to operate. So, in a sport where things move and change pretty quickly (as opposed to a sport like basketball, let's say, where the rough motion of a jump shot hasn't changed in ages), how will an AI handle novel inputs? Unless they aren't using deep nets... but who isn't?
This paper is a good example of deep nets not handling inputs far away from training data.
how have athletes responded? do you think they change their approach and try to learn the system or do you think they all try to do tricks that aren’t rewarded by the AI that are crowd pleasers just to sabotage it?? maybe they just won’t give a fuck lol.
also, wasn’t owl ai on the screen from time to time last year?? i have a slight recollection of the owl in the corner but that could be my mind misleading me
kind of a bummer because these models could probably be incorporated in ways that don’t make comp skiing even more formulaic while still increasing the integrity of comp results.
for example you could train a model to recognize if an athlete successfully executed all their grabs or not, which would have helped in the Beijing snowboarding slopestyle final when I think the gold medalist whiffed a grab. that way judges could concentrate on more important stuff and worry less about missing small details

Snubs def happen, and plenty of time me or somebody else simply doesn't agree with the decision. Thats life. I think we all can be down with that. We'll bitch about what we feel is a bad call but that's part of the game.
I don't see this being different and definitely not better with AI. Imagine getting snubbed by a computer because some CEO thinks its the future...
Just gonna toss this out there because nobody else seems to have - the idea of using an obscenely carbon-intensive technology (AI is already using an estimated 4.4% of ALL ENERGY in the US, citation here) in snowsports is outrageous.
