I have core shots in my skis and I was reluctant to apply wax all season until I filled them with ptex. I've had them "repaired" twice, but the ptex has chipped away both times. Is it okay to just wax the skis as they are next season and ignore the core shots so I can stop playing for repairs?
Try to find a shop nearby with an actual base welder.
Drip on p-Tex from a candle is always going to fall out because it doesn’t bond well with the underlying exposed core. You need to have the core shots cleaned up and actual metal grip material filled in the holes.
My local hill repaired them so it should've been a pretty decent quality job. They also said my bases were very thin and they might not hold up

There's very few things you should bring your skis to a shop for. If you want to stop paying for repairs start doing shit for yourself.
This applys to everything in life, my dad could fix a house, jetski or a pair of jet skis. For over a decade he's used youtube videos but back when I was little we used to go to the public library to borrow owners guide books. He couldn't afford a jetski if he had to pay a guy for repairs but because he could repair anything he could.
What may help is before filling the holes, grab a sharp knife and carve some ridges into the sides of the holes. That way the ptex grips into the bases better and will stay in longer.
personally I just fill the gouges with wax until I can be bothered to actually repair them, in which case you definitely don't want wax in there or the ptex won't stick

Depends how much life is left in them. If you are gonna ride them in November and fuck them up more, might as well just wax over the core shots. If you really like the skis and they have a year plus left in them def fix it.
It's honestly not that hard to do by yourself with a chisel tip soldering iron, some p-tex wire and a really sharp metal scraper.
