Socks

a_pla5tic_bagNot even for skiing, just for every day life. Whatever Hanes or whichever socks I have are mostly cotton and synthetics and my shoes smell. Aside from getting new shoes, which I have, I'm considering jumping to mostly merino wool socks, maybe darn tough or smartwool. However, that'd be an expensive venture barring some good sales. Anybody happy with any alternatives?

The full wool sock rotation has vastly improved my quality of life. I have a bunch of Smartwool socks and a few Darn Tough ones.

Wool socks are expensive, especially if they come with a strong warranty like those two brands. DT has a lifetime warranty, and SW is two years, but I've warrantied much older pairs (you just fill out an online form, and they don't require a receipt). The initial cost is hard to swallow, but I don't plan on ever buying socks again—assuming those companies keep up their warranty systems—so it's worth it in the long run.

Also, buy one pair first and make sure you like them. I like my DT socks, but when I wear them with some shoes, they start to fall off my feet, which is why I have more SW socks.

I also have a few pairs of J.B. Field's hiking socks. They are a merino blend and made in Canada and cost less than Smartwool or DT, but I don't know what their warranty/guarantee system is.

Buy nice socks and you will live a better life.

I buy them from Sierra sometimes. Some are second quality/irregular but not all and I've never had an issue. I just filtered for brands that mostly do merino like icebreaker, smartwool, patagucci, farm to feet. If you keep an eye out there can be some pretty good clearance deals. Ski socks will be cheap soon.

I have pairs of mons royale, wigwam, darn tough in addition to those mentioned above. Level nine has good deals on mons royale stuff sometimes.

I like the Mons Royale Atlas merino snow sock a lot.

I've been taking a lot of care since I got new boots. After skiing my socks still smell good like laundry detergent. There were times when being in the same car as my boots/socks was pure torture.

Better diet & Japanese bath salts help a lot as well.

I have been on Darn Tough for about 9 years now. I have bought 8 pairs over the years, and warrantied some pairs 3-4 times. You get a hole, you put it in an envelope and ship it off, you get a new pair. I will never wear a non wool sock again.

It really is wool or nothing. also Smartwool doesnt make you send them back witch is nice. and pretty sure you can take DT souck to most outdoor shops that sell them and switch em out in person.

Merino year round, varying thickness levels for different temps. Or generally any running or cycling sock will do, the moisture wicking works wonders.

Not anymore. Bought new shoes and nuked my socks with antibacterial shit and I'm good to go now. Still going to get better socks though.
