What are some Do’s and Dont’s while skiing?

I’m not sure about these but I’d like to hear your opinions on it and maybe add to it aswell.

- Riding over the lip of rails
- If they are young like around 5-9 years old don’t yell at em or be a dick about it. They’re most likely 40-80 pounds at most so I don’t think it would make a huge impact. I know most ppl wouldnt yell or be a dick but I’ve seen it happen (I was a survivor of 2010’s Carinthia).
However, if they are older and can comprehend the harsh truth that those arnt mini jumps then I think it’s totally acceptable to give a polite explanation on why not to do it.

- Smoking on the lift
I know this has a thread but I’d figure I would add my personal opinion. If there is a family or anyone under the age of 14-15 then it’s an absolute no go. However if you’re on a lift with people around your age and they seem chill with it I’d think it’s fine. My point is it’s an awkward situation for kids who arnt surround by it a lot or ever surround by it.

- Bar Up/Down
If you are a single you don’t choose if the bar says up or goes down. If it’s that big of a deal to you it’s okay to ask with the other people if it’s okay because they most likely won’t care unless they’re a loser.

- JBL demons
One of my biggest pet peeves while skiing. Don’t fucking play your boof ass music out loud nobody wants to hear that shit. People took time out of their lives to make headphones so you don’t have to do that shit, and they best part is they cost half or if not more than half the price of a speaker.

- Practice before going to the park
I think this one is a no brainer, the park is not a blue, green, or black it has its own trail head for a reason. The park is not somewhere where it’s okay to consistently fall because it’s almost like a flow of traffic and if ur just eating shit over and over again it ruins that sort of flowey feel the park has. Don’t get me wrong it’s fine to fall aslong as your acctually doing shit but the park is not a bunny hill.

I love lipping over rails from one side to the other or carving off the lip to transition across the run to connect another feature and keep the flow, might pop into switch or butter off it, even just a long shiftey. Riding over lips is way different then jumping them. Either way it’s common courtesy to use the lips how they were intended. I’m sure there’s plenty of jumps out there that you could use

i’m using the ramp as a ramp… does it matter what i do after my skis leave the snow?? being worried about someone damaging the lip is insane, it’s snow, that’s how it works, me hopping off it to the left does just as much damage as someone hopping off onto a rail. I don’t owe anyone the curtousey to ski any feature any certain way and that’s exactly what free skiing is about. And you’re right there are plenty of jumps out there for me to use, some of them just happen to be infront of rails.

definitely agree about it not being a big deal but its super annoying when its little kids going 2mph over the lip while im tryna hit the rail

i mean im not gonna give a kid a pass on using the rail lips as a jump ever. you can totally tell kids about the intended use of the lips for the features and guide them to the smaller park with more appropriate features in a way that continues their stoke and gets them on whats gonna be more fun for them anyway. educate the youth and get them stoked.

DO give unsolicited advice to people about lines/tricks/general fundamentals

DON'T ever act like you aren't the best skier on the mountain

DO smoke right on the chairlift, even if others ask you not to

DON'T ask me where I got my kit from

DO a 360, right now bro- you won't

DON'T put the bar down- it's a display of weakness and european coded

DO blast music from a speaker- especially in lift lines and avalanche prone areas

DON'T dap people up at the drop in- cool guy the shit out of them instead

DO cork 3's on every jump in the line going really really fast

Honestly it doesn't hurt the lip unless ur hotlapping hitting the same rails off to the side every lap. Like if u just do it once and awhile it's not gunna do shit to the lips. It's also probably the wackest way you could possibly ride the feature unless you're doing some kind of tranny. Like what you explained is cool, but if you're just seshing that every run ur gunna fuck the lips and it's not cool.

and nah I mean, you're right.. If it's good conditions and consistently -temps overnight. It can be repushed and solidify overnight. When it's spring and ur doin retard shit on the lips, ur just making park crew upset.

ya i don’t really care what “damage” it does to the lip. It’s supposed to be skied so i’m gana ski it, this is the same principle as having cool shoes but never wearing them because you don’t want to get them dirty. The shoes are meant to be worn, that’s its hole point.

The real argument here is that squares like you actually end up putting riders intending to properly use the feature at risk. Jumping off the side of a lip specifically built to get you onto a feature changes the way the snow wears. Usually a little trench forms that actually helps riders safely get onto said feature. But when you decide to do your massively sick tail grab or even worse a “switch butter” the shape of the lip changes and makes it way easier for skis to split or catch while coming off the takeoff. This is why park crew builds snow features. If you’re not gonna hit the rail, don’t touch the lip.

i get the theory but it just isn’t that serious at all. Trenches don’t just pop up in the lip like that. This really isn’t an issue when people pop off it normally like i do
