Freeride World Tour 2025 - Discussion Thread

The FWT kicks off at 09:30am CET this Friday, January 17th, in Baqueria at heart of the Spanish Pyrenees. Following this event, there will be five more stops to complete the tour:

Val Thorens, 27 Jan - 01 Feb
Kicking Horse, 07-13 Feb
Georgia (the country), 23 Feb - 01 Mar
Fieberbrunn, 08-13 Mar
Xtreme Verbier, 22-30 Mar

It should be a rather exciting season with the new changes to the format that encourage more boundary-pushing skiing. Read more about it here: https://www.freerideworldtour.com/

I have also set up a Fantasy FWT "Tribe", it's simply a game of predicting who you think will do well in each event and takes no more than 3 mins to get everything sorted. To join either reply with your username or try and find "Newschoolers" in the Leagues tab (might be listed currently as league no.11 or no.128. Woke up hoping to watch the replay only to find it's postponed until the 24th.

Avy mitigation caused a big slide so now they're going to have to change faces again.

According to his IG he injured his left knee during the second stop in France, he is out for the rest of the season unfortunatelly.

BigPurpleSkiSuitfair, I've never done flats at all, don't throw backies off cliffs, but with a backflip there's no element of sideways rotation, meaning you have more room to manuever in my opinion compared to a flat 3 where there's less margin for error when you're going that fast throwing them off consequential features.


While I've never actually done a flat 3, I've always thought that it is, for the most part similar to a backflip... or more a wackflip... commit to a wackflip, throw a Japan grab in there, and you got yourself a flat 3. But again, I've never done one so fuck me.

Wait you know what, while I may not have done flat 3s on skis, I've attempted them on tramps and always ended up at 5, not 3 which is probably why I am super impressed by them

Maxime and Abel had completely opposite strategies.

Abel - keep it safe, basically not even doing a comp run. Stay on the feet and just get down for a score. Any score.

Maxime - 3 NS in a row? Yolo's a double backflip at the top of the run. Let's make it 4.

Not the most exciting stop with so many falls, snow conditions looked all over the place. Thought chloe hehir could've had winning run if she stomped that huge drop. She's been so close to putting down clean podium runs all season.

As an old 40 year old, when I watch Goguen I can't help but think that the dude must live in the gym. His strength to just stomp and ride out of... well... all of it, is insane. His strength, ability, and smart line choice is unmatched.

He seems like a bulky dude. Probably pure muscle and flexibility

Lost my marbles at the 88. Think the same thing happening/ ned with Ben Richards and even Pollard too, they just make it look so damn easy you forget they nuking and throwing tricks. Absolutely insane. Not even done watching yet.

I'm really happy to see Weitien, Ross, and Toby on top, but I'd prefer if it wasn't because everyone else crashed

yea think 2017 was the last one. looks like it replaced the kicking horse stop so still only 1 NA venue. gotta make sure there are plenty of euro events so they can cancel half of them 🙄

Maybe I’m just jaded but I wonder if it has anything to do with the gondola falling apart a few weeks ago. Could be a coincidence they were dropped for AK instead but it does suck to see the loss of the only Canadian stop.

someone else on here was saying insurance liability but that doesn't make sense given they're now running one in alaska and the challenger series has a bunch of US stops already. i'm still convinced it's because lolo besse is part of a woke eurocentric cabal.

Is there any reason we can’t have more than one NA stop? World tour but almost entirely within Europe with one kicking horse stop, now Haines? I get skiing is fairly restricted in terms of where it can occur and respect the logistics of organizing this kind of event but damn

Long gone are the days where they would close any inbounds terrain for a week plus to host a full fledged stop.

They could do it on Germicide but that seems like a stretch also (although it would be incredible).

I interpret this to mean that whoever wins Ordino Arcalís gets to call themselves World Champion regardless of performance on the rest of the tour? That seems like a dropped ball.

I feel like "world champion" and "FWT champion" will be separate titles. Like in slopestyle you can win world championships title and then there is the crystal globe for the most overall points from the whole season.
