Problems with chop and moguls

Recently I’ve been having problems skiing chop and moguls. First off, Im a pretty confident skier and ski quite aggressively but recently I feel like I’ve been getting thrown around a lot more by chop and moguls. I lose my balance, I cant turn accurately, I can’t control my speed etc. Any advice to combat these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Also a note I don’t know if this impacts my skiing in those conditions as much too but I was skiing on my park ski (2024 mango 100s) but even with my all mountains I still had that issue. I would say that my legs are in okay shape. I’m 15, 6’ and weigh 150 pounds.

Keep your weight on the front of your boots and don’t be afraid to take a mogul lesson lol you’ll learn a lot

Will do, I try to keep my weight on the front of my boots most times but I have not taken a mogul lesson. Will definitely take one this year since that’s a great idea.

A park ski is the opposite of what you want for those conditions. Stiffer and more directional for chop and similar for moguls, but not as stiff.

Also, moguls are their own separate beast. There's some decent youtube videos out there but it's really hard to put into practice.

Feet together, use your outside edges. If you turn on your inside edges you'll get bucked and your legs will separate.

For bumps, turn on top of the bumps instead of in the 'troughs'. Feet together and using your outside edges helps here too.

Just pretend you're on a mono ski, forget your inside edges and blast chop

I dont ski anymore so take this with a grain of bathsalts but you just gotta relax a bit. Go with the flow. As stupid crystal boofing hippie as that sounds it works. At least for me.

Chop can be unpredictable especially for us single edgers. Trusting yourself, committing, and sending it goes a long ways.

When you hesitate is when you explode.

Find a nice steep hill in your town and dig a staircase of potholes up it. Then climb to the top, put your boots on and hop into each hole on the way down.

I can only zipper more mellow pitched bumps like blues, but honestly stay committed but loosen up a bit. Add a bit more suspension to the legs. Going in more stiff is only gonna ruin it for you. Also for some reason i find the more mixed angled bump runs more fun than the grueling sustained ones in terms of finding creativity. Also slow down in the bumps. Take em mellow first few times then really get into it. Hopefully i can zipper the blacks and double black bumps one day. Maybe this season but mary jane isnt on my pass so who knows.
