Rock_InhabitantI know I don’t need any of this stuff but it’s borderline necessary in order to have a good time.
Rock_InhabitantWe all know skiing is not cheap but there are so many little things that cost like 100$ each that you really want. glove liners, back protector, impact shorts, boot bag, waxing setup, sno seal. This list adds up to prolly more than 1000$, I know I don’t need any of this stuff but it’s borderline necessary in order to have a good time. Plus my parents are already lowkey pissed about spending a fuckton on skis and boots and bindings and season pass
SofaKingSickfunny, i find myself thinking that skiing products are relatively easy to find deals on if you're patient
imo it's the lift tickets/passes part of skiing that has officially hit the "totally fucking absurd" zone. i'm not skiing enough these days to justify a $1000+ pass, and the day tickets are like a bad prank. like you can actually walk up to a hill and with a straight face they'll sell you a $140+ lift ticket... even if half their trails are closed, it's a pure ice sheet, and you spend half your day in lines. a good fresh snow day is worth it, everything else makes about as much financial sense as a coke habit
absolutely forget even trying to get someone new into skiing at those prices

steezytangerinewhats a glove liner?
Farmville420I've introduced a lot of broke people to skiing and most of them think that once you commit it's actually not that bad financially, at least in comparison to other hobbies like sneakerheads or car bros.

BallClapperOnly thing I have on that list Is a back protector. I have a pretty fucking good time. I have never once skied without a back protector since first buying one. It's nice to have some extra peace of mind. Some people might tell you It isn't necessary but I would deff recommend.
PartyBullshiitDon’t need glove liners. Don’t need a boot bag unless you have to fly to ski. Wax and brushes can be had for $30 bucks if you search.
unless you’re racing professionally a back protector is a bit overall.
padded shorts? wtf are you Mr glass over here?
mrk127I personally disagree on the back protector. Depending on what kind of skiing your doing. It's a soild investment thats basicly never going to wear out. Yeah your average east coast rail rat doesn't need one, but for freeriding, It's nice to have some insurance if you were to smack the fuck outta a rock or tree.
My back protector has saved me once, I crashed in a landing and got hit by my homie following behind me. He ejected and I took a ski boot directly to the middle of my back. And instead of breaking my back I just got the wind knocked out of me.
I have this one and love it https://shredoptics.com/collections/back_protection/products/noshock-back-protector-naked?variant=48479922913607

hamsauceSkis- $200 used
bindings- $150
boots- $600 for bootfitter,$200 used
poles- $10 used
helmet- $120
ski socks- $25
gloves- $25
coat/pants- $300 combined. Hunt for deals
wax/brushes- $30 REI membership for free machine waxes, or a goodwill iron and a $15 off brand brush and scraper. Or buy used
bag- whatever old duffel is laying in your parents garage, or if you fly, spend $200
back protector- freeride comps are spendy. Sucks. Otherwise dont need one.
glove liners- dont need.
snoseal- $10, only really need multiple coats if you live somewhere super wet. Just ask a homie. Let him draw on your kincos if hel give you $1 worth of snoseal
from zero gear to having a full kit of fairly good stuff- under $1000. Then just pass costs. Skiings expensive.
Rock_InhabitantYeah a lot of the stuff I listed was stuff I would only miss for like 3 days of the season. Needing a back protector suuuucks for freeride comps tho. And you need to pay like 300$ in fees just to register with IFSA, plus ~100$ per comp you sign up for. I just wanna compete man 😢

theabortionatorI get the point but thats a weird comparison. The whole point of sneakers as a "hobby" is to spend too much money on overpriced shoes to flex on people.
And car, well yeah cars are expensive especially if you're building them out.
Farmville420Okay then let's just take knitting or something like that. My girlfriend knits and each piece costs a hundred or two to make. Pretend it's a ski pass, you could make at most like 10 shitty stuffed animals or blankets a year. Painting is super expensive especially oil painting. Golf, even rec sports are super pricey. My friends joined a soccer league that lasts 4 months and it costed them a band. My broke friends will go clubbing and to concerts and drop half their paycheck at the bar, that's not even a hobby people just do that for fun. When you get into things they get more expensive, skiing has a crazy barrier to entry but once you're past that it's not much more expensive than being heavily invested in most other hobbies/sports.
yungspliffyDamn bro, “shitty” stuffed animals? Hope ur girl don’t find your NS
