Boot Top Fibula Fracture, How Long Til Im Back?

Welp, started this season strong fracturing my fibula hitting rails at the Brighton Bone Zone on october 28th. Caught my trailing foot on the start of a rail. Didn't acually know it was fractured til 2 days later and went to the doctor bc the swelling hadn't gotten better. Threw me in a boot and crutches and I have a follow up visit next week. It seems to be pretty minor, 5 days after the incident I am able to walk normally albeit slow (i wear my boot pretty much all the time and use crutches, was just a test.) Im 20 and overally pretty fit and well balanced diet, how long would you guys *guess* til im back even if its just cruising groomers? Pretty bummed overall but I guess this is the best time of the season for it to happen? Yeah yeah i know this isn't the place for medical advice but I am more so looking for personal experiences. I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE:

If that were me, I would expect minimum a few months, maybe even the majority of the season before thinking about getting back after it. Even if you feel like you’re 100% before that, the risk of an unhealed fracture getting re-injured, as well as the risk of it not healing well and causing chronic pain forever make it not worth chancing it.


Prob not what you want to hear, but here’s to hoping somebody with MD after their name will give you better news.

If you're looking for personal experience stories, each time I've broken a bone, I've been given the 6-ish weeks range.

My biggest piece of advice go have an explicit talk with your doctor and find out their exact take on it, Drs in SLC deal with enough of this stuff happening to give you experienced advice. Also, don't be an idiot and stress it too early. If you re-break it, you are not looking at a much longer recovery overall, but potentially damaging it way, way worse for the long run.

I've done a fair amount of damage to my shit and always bounced back in my teens and 20s and thought I was the bees knees. But now I am paying the price for my stupidity in my mid/late 30s.

This x100. I also found that they wouldn't be up front with a ton of information, but are willing to chat if you ask the questions.

Also... for anyone that breaks a bone in the future GET THE DISK WITH YOUR IMAGES. The amount of times I've had to re-do X-rays going from one doctor to another is infuriating.

I appreciate it man!! My guess was I’d be skiing in January. I just hope I’ll be able to come back without any issues mainly.
