Thinking about getting the cast freetour upgrade kit for my Jeff 110's that I ski inbounds. I wanna get into some touring but am not willing to get a whole dedicated setup. Would it be dumb to ski them inbounds? Also, what keeps the alpine toe secured to the ski? I eat shit about 2-3 times per session and don't want to loose the pivot toe piece in a big crash. Planning on running it with some K2 diverge sc boots, which I have been told work with both alpine and tech bindings.
I have a set of C.A.S.T. pivot 15s and I ride them in bound all the time. You honestly don't feel the difference what so ever. There are little studs that stick out to lace the toe piece through. If you get them, make sure the shop installs them perfectly perpendicular to the ski. Since they have to go through 4 wholes, if one is off it can kinda be a bit sticky to get on and off. C.A.S.T. touring is also really good about warranties. I had a little plastic piece that broke off and they sent me out a replacement the next day.

what this dude said. no worries at all when skiing inbounds, with proper installation and using the system a couple times it’s fantastic.
This is the kind of setup and type of use most people I know who have casts run. I think the toe is locked in pretty well. I've seen some horrific shit-eating on casts with no damage to the setup.
I've chatted with the CAST guys and I will support their product any day. The release is certified to the same standard as any other binding on the market. I've done a bunch of installations and yeah they are the real deal. Never seen any failures come through my shop related to the CAST mechanisms. Not the lightest but that's not important so I would recommend.
CAST is good to go. Inbounds/out of bounds/backcountry. Solid everywhere. I dunno if it's out yet but the newest generation I saw in Feb looked pretty sweet, might be worth waiting a little.
I should have taken pics because I don't remember exactly. Basically same function but it seemed like it was more on rails rather than the 4 screw toggle. I could be way off, it was a while ago and a few beers deep. Maybe @Cast can shed a little light.
If you do go CAST, spend some time making sure the brake retainer is in the right spot. I fucked mine up on one ski and it pops off while hiking sometimes.

you can loosen out the screw holding the black piece in, engage the brake lock as you would normally and then re tighten the screw back down and you’ll be good
I ride a cast mounted ski in bounds and it goes pretty hard. Only issue was when I dropped a fat cliff last year and the cast toe piece popped off, no damage my boot just unclipped it during the fall. That fall also ripped my atomic ski/mode walk mode bar clean off and hair line hairline fractured my shin bone. Had to hike up and grab the tow piece and have been using it ever since so no permanent damage, just something to be aware of, they have a limit.
