theabortionatorDamn thats gnar! What happened? Surgery?
bananaman123431I went off a jump with wayyyyy to much speed and i was backseat so i landed like 60-70feet down on a 30ft jump right no my back and my right femur just snapped over my chest. I had surgery and there is a rod in my leg now. It’s only been 2 days since the accident
theabortionatorDang thats gnar!! I got super lucky over shooting a junp when I was younger. Cracked a couple vertebrae, prolly should have snapped my femur but got away with hairline cracks.
Got any friends you can hang out at your spot and play skate or something? Being laid up after surgery is always tough. Hopefully you got some good people.
Obviously "try to stay positive" but easier said then done.
You ever play the guitar? Could be cool to pick up a new hobby where you dont have to go anywhere.
Surgery go pretty well? Whats your time frame to being able to walk?
bananaman123431Surgery went well, rod is in and I just took a walk with crutches today but no pressure on the foot for 4 weeks
JAlpsDid my left one 2 years ago, but got lucky and have no hardware. Not sure what your rehab situation looks like, but after you get over the first couple weeks be really vigilant about keeping whatever range of motion you can in your hips. The fracture will heal on its own time, but the thing that's left implications for me was residual hip/lower back pain from muscle imbalances.
bananaman123431Hey all, i just broke my femur the other day, anyone who has broken their femur or knows someone who has, anything that could potentially help, make life easier? Thanks
codizzleI spent the next three years doing physical therapy to get back to basics.
Hit me if you need recommendations on physical therapists. I know the very best.

steezytangerineI broke my knee in 2021 winter skiing and had a small fracture in my femur and tibea, as well as straining my mcl. My recovery was quick, but if there’s any advice I could give it would be:
1. to follow absolutely everything your physio and doctors tell you to do. I slacked off a little at the end of my physio and a year later I had to revisit some of the excersize s
2. set goals for what you want to do after your recovery and don’t forget that it will only end sooner if you follow your recovery plan/physio excersizes
3. find things that allow you to enjoy life and stay fit while injured. You could still go to the gym and do only upper body stuff and core stuff which will help your come back stronger
4. there’s plenty of other skiers that have gone through the same thing, talk with them abt it and watch andri ragettlis road to recogery it’s a banger and it’s sure to inspire you
hope you have a good recovery
bananaman123431Thanks everyone for the reply’s. My leg is feeling amazing but my knee is not. I have to go get an mri or something but my speculation is i tore one or a few things in my knee and it’s going to suck to do rehab.
steezytangerineThat’s a bummer, hope the MRI goes well, are you insured on all this stuff?
RudyGarmischI broke my femur skiing, severed a lot of my IT band in the fall. Hit PT hard. Full recovery took about a year but I went for a easy ski three months later. Take recovery seriously and keep positive, it can be a motivator and you can come back even stronger. And you will have to really try hard to break it again with that rod, so that’s some insurance on your future.
bananaman123431Just got cleared for weight bearing, PT and driving. Super stoked on everything just hoping my knee is all good. Doc says he doesn’t think i tore my acl so that’s really reassuring.
snomasterdid we ever find out how you broke your femur? there's always a story!
bananaman123431oh i don’t think i ever said anything. Pretty much I was feeling out the jumps at timberline in public park and I hit the first and didn’t think i had enough speed for the second so i sat skiied in and went way to fast while standing up and slowly started rotating backwards midair. I landed on my back way past the landing in the flats and my right femur just snapped over my chest. not fun
