$1200+ for the summit alone...and it costs as much for an unlimited midweek pass at other resorts for a fucking 4-pack of tickets. I'm stoked my employer gives us a discount to Alta at least. But yeah they gotta pay for the Gondola somehow!
CoolChillGuy420The days of the $450-500 Chair-only pass and they would still let you on the tram in late April....pre COVID was an amazing time to be alive boys
If they charged that and got off the ikon pass it would be perfect. Unfortunately they won't do that and I love snowbird enough that I'd pay pretty much any amount of money to ski there

The high prices are also suppose to deter people from buying it. If snowbird sold a $500 pass it would completely overrun and would be an awful experience.

and push people to ikon.
Like deer valley doesn't want to sell passes, they want people on Ikons coming to visit and spending $$$ on lodging/food

i disagree, I dont think those resorts want Ikon pass holders more than their own pass holders or someone who buys a day tickets. The resorts get a pretty small amount of money per Ikon day, I would imagine some places regret adding it because theyre way too busy and parking is fucked.
Obviously more people = more retail/food/lodging but im not sure if that's as strong of an argument for Utah because a lot of Ikon pass holders are locals.
Either way, the resorts are making more money than ever and its more crowded than ever, so take it how you like, but higher prices usually means they're trying to limit demand.
But I can say for sure that DV has high prices to make it exclusive, they limit day ticket sales and often sell out on busy weekends.
Snowbird would definitely prefer ikon visitors who are more likely to spend money at the resort than I am apart from riding the lift

All I'm saying is both big spenders and budget-friendly locals can coexist in the ski ecosystem without turning things into golf where it's essentially country club prices to go get some exercise. Yes touring is an option AS always but how much longer are we gonna keep bootlicking these greedy-as-fuck mega corporations because of "muh good terrain" and "muh ski culture" when its like taking out a fucking loan to get a piece of RFID plastic? It's starting to become asinine and delusional. Skiing is as popular as it's ever been so no shit there are gonna be liftlines. It's like people care more about that by justifying "my ski experience is ruined!!!" When is it really though? Are you at work And do you have anything better to do? Boo hoo you have to wait 10mins to load. Get friendly and meet some homies.
Skiing has become so childish in 2023 that it's laughable

You ever wonder if us locals are part of the experience for the big spenders?
like sometimes I’m just talking to some out of towners. Being nice and chill and helping them out. And sometimes I wonder if I’m just a pawn for their ski experience. Like not in a bad way but just in a like “this guy told me it’s good and I went and it’s good” way
This year I bought a midweek Alta pass for $1000. It was well worth it as it was a great year for powder at Alta. The weekends are so hectic in the Canyon that I prefer not to ski anyway. If you are desperate to ski on the weekends you can still go touring and avoid the crowded resort.
You could also buy an Ikon and a midweek Alta pass for around $2200-$2300. Then you have tons of other options to mix things up.

Youre missing the point that 2k for a ski pass is fucking insanity.
$2000 Cdn for a Kicking Horse (more than WB) pass and we essentially have two lifts and shabby service at best. But you can buy an early bird pass for $1000 if you're local, we have some of the best terrain in North America, and the longest gondola in NA. It makes no sense but thank god for the local pass.

is this based? expensive for non locals and not that appealing for tourists except those who come to shred? kicking horse W

This sounds like a dream. I would move to golden to ski kh in a heartbeat but Canada doesn’t want us yanks infesting their lovely country

$2,000 CDN is equivalent a two month's supply of insulation here in the U.S. That's a killer deal.

If I recall correctly, Sugarbush did this too before the Alterra takeover, but it was shut down because some second home owner got super mad he couldn't get a local pass. I don't remember the exact story but my family lives in the MRV and everyone there hates this guy for getting the local pass axed lol.
