I know there's like 4 threads about this topic, but I've never really seen any of them answered. I've got some pivot 12's that I want to match with my pink Magnus', what have you guys done to really get a solid paint job on them and assure that it wont get fucked and come right off? would love to see what u guys did and how it held up
If you wanna paint them yourself, DO NOT mess with the heel assembly. I took the dildo off the brake assembly, and went to disengage the heel when finished, and the whole assembly came apart. Ski shops can not put them back together for you, and they’re a bitch to put back together. So in conclusion, tape everything and don’t save time by disassembling.
If it were me, id also get some tape to cover some metal bits and the din setting thing. Then just hit up the spray paint. If the binding is already on the ski, get some paper towels and more tape to cover the ski.

My only worry is the spray paint is just gonna come right off and look like shit, should I do something like a clear coat so it doesn’t get fucked over from snow?

Imo, I’d get a white and do a coat of that. Let it dry. Then do a few more of the color you want. Anything will chip no matter what. Just fix it with more paint

Gonna disagree here. The dildo is pretty straight forward to disassemble and the brake assembly should not come apart unless you really mess up somewhere along the way. Just take a mental note or maybe a video if you pull it apart to make sure you put all the parts back in the right way. Of course dont stick your fingers in the black trapezoid shaped bar on the dildo ever

No matter what you do it will scratch. Easiest thing to do is use nail polish, colered sharpie or some paint pen to touch it up if you really care. Powder coating works good on 15s and 18s but is a lot of work.

this. I've taken apart and painted pivots tons of times. It's a super simple design. I only have experience with 15s and 18s, but I would imagine using RIT dye on the plastic would be more durable than spray paint.
I did a quick and loose job on these toes and they still look alright.

only problem with RIT dye is I'm a little scared of talking apart my pivot completely and putting it in the dye, then reassembling it. I'd rather go the route of just leaving my pivots on and using painters tape over the important parts, since they are brand new I don't want to fuck them over
