TriFectaI think Embiid nabs the MVP. Doesn’t feel correct to anoint Jokic a third time. And while Giannis is always top notch, this didn’t feel like an outstanding year for him. Don’t get it twisted, he’s my best player in the league right now. But in terms of what I think will happen factoring in voters liking to crown someone new, Joel.
At the moment my gut says Suns - Celtics Finals but I could just as easily see the Bucks coming out of the East. I feel like everyone in the West has glaring flaws or concerns that whoever comes out will be up against it with their eastern opponent.
With all the Kings talk, I think they’re fun but in terms of their run in the playoffs I worry about experience. Some teams move ahead of schedule as playoff rookies, but usually not to a Final unless they are especially stacked. (Think 2012 Thunder) Which is nothing to sneeze at. This Kings team has legitimately climbed out of the hell they were in which is great. A bit reminiscent to me of the 60 win Hawks team from a few years back. Well oiled machine of an offense that hums during the regular season, but could sputter in the playoffs with physical, more experienced opponents (Warriors). And leaking like a sieve on defense is a big concern any playoff team. I think it’s great to get playoff experience regardless, especially against the defending champs. Exactly the kind of culture building experiences teams need to turn things around.
I dont think someone deserves an MVP just because it should be someone new. Giannis has had a crazy season 31 ppg, 11.8 RB, and over 50% from the field and he has done it without Khris Middleton for a lot of the season. Its honestly crazy how close the race has been though I wouldn't be suprised if Joel wins it.
PacificRimJobhe went 9-18, and Booker went 3-12. Not their best effort.
That game they were guarded by CB and pwat so that actually makes sense
supremeblientelethis is just an unintelligent hot take
If they played 4 times and never put up an impressive performance (besides the Christmas game) vs the nuggets it’s really hard for me to believe they’re gonna destroy them in the playoffs to be completely fair

i’m not a fan of simply picking someone new, and I don’t think that’s how it should work. Most of the time any other season, or the postseason, should be left out of the consideration. Jokic might be an exception because it’s special territory to get it three times and I don’t think he’s earned that.
What I am saying, though, is that voter fatigue is an unfortunate reality. So I think Embiid will win. Even Jordan was the victim of voter fatigue. There is no way in hell that Malone deserved a MVP in 98.
PacificRimJobI think that's the common consensus about how a lot of people expect Sacramento to perform, but I really don't buy it for a few reasons.
The playoffs are usually dictated by how healthy a team is, and how prepared they are with coaching -
the Kings have a well-rested, healthy squad, and something that a lot of teams don't - and that's a coach who has a TON of playoff experience and knowledge about the opposition, and who has really got this team doing what he asks for. Mike Brown is going to win coach of the year hands down, and he has this team fully bought into his system and fully trusting him. There's no doubt he's going to have them prepared against the team he coached the last 7 years through the playoffs - he knows those players' weaknesses and how to prepare his guys to exploit them. It's going to come down to how well he can prepare his guys and how well they can keep the offence churning out points like they have all year.
Could the Warriors just dominate the Kings with incredible coaching and solid play due to their players' experience and talent? Sure... That's totally an acceptable expectation, but I would not count out the Kings just because their players haven't been to the playoffs given how seasoned their coaching staff is.
If the Kings were matched up against the Clippers, I would absolutely put my money on Sacramento given Paul George being out, and their subsequent overreliance on Kawhi, but with the Warriors, I feel it's a bit more of a coinflip, really. Nevertheless, I don't expect either the warriors nor Sac to go to the finals, much less win the whole thing. So this could simply just be a really fun competition for regional bragging rights. I just want it to be a good series - please let it go to a game 7 and show the world how awesome Sacramento is as a town and a fanbase... I really hope Sacramento can pull it off and keep lighting the beam for at least another round.
I hear you and I have no interest in raining on anyone’s parade unnecessarily. I’ve just seen plenty of teams show up to the playoffs that are healthy and young get beat by the older more experienced team too many times to count them out either. Perhaps my point is that while I am not holding my breath that the kings will make a super deep run on their first go at it, I’d be happy to see them go as far as they can. I tend to subscribe to the idea that there is a playoff maturation process that everyone has to go through. The Pistons had to learn to get past the Celtics, the bulls had to learn to get past the Pistons, and so on.

That's a great point
Counterpoint: None of those teams had a beam. Beam team go brrrrrrrr

Lol just reread ur comment and I totally misinterpreted it, u were just saying thats the way voters will likely vote, and i totally agree. Peace and love

Youre forgetting one thing... the Kings haven't lost a playoff series in SEVENTEEN YEARS.
But yeah, I totally wouldn't be surprised if the Kings lose to the Warriors, but I also wouldn't put it past them to win. Lots of people are writing them off for the same reasons, but thats why we play the games, eh?

Haha you make a good point, they haven’t lost one in 17 years. That’s hard to contend with.
I hope your Kings advance and beat the Warriors. The Dubs can eat shit after they moved into that toilet looking arena and priced out all the faithful Oakland folks who stood by them for all the bad years. Never want a tech bro to have a reason to cheer there again.
The play in games are so pointless, not a fan. They feel like such meaningless basketball and a blatant money grab by the league. 7 and 8 seeds have only pulled off first round upsets 9 times combined, so it's not like these teams typically have serious chances of actually getting anywhere in the playoffs. All just about opportunities to sell more tickets and merch.

the games have been close and competitive so far, so im all for it
was at sunpies in steamboat watchin that sacramento game, just absolutely blasted with the homies watching Fox drop damn near 40 over draymonds head. Kings in 5

The Kings know how to turn on a different level in the second half and definitely in the 4th quarter... They have all year long. So many impressive comebacks, and Fox is the king of clutch...
They were absolutely ripping cotton from long range late in the game and the G1C came alive in classic Sacto fashion... Loud as can be. The crowd outside was just unreal - great to finally see that plaza sardine canned for a playoff game. The bars downtown must be absolutely fucking RINSING with sales.

1 down. Gotta have more cowbell though...
very impressive win fs. especially with sabonis not scoring.
if sabonis can get going on offense, i will be curious to see how to warriors will counter.
this just got interesting. wouldn't count GS state out, curry miracles dont even suprise me anymore, and fox had to really show up, play hard, and drop 40 to barely get the W. dont think he can deliver that performance every night of the series, but we'll see

gonna be a good one boys. kings all day
Yeah, the Warriors are not going away whatsoever. Theyre too well coached, too experienced, too talented, and everyone is playing healthy.
The Kings however are not going to go down like some were expecting. Theyre going to fight, and theyre going to grind things out. If they can get the pick and roll working, and if they can get the clutch scoring they have all year long, theyre going to compete really hard with the Dubs and it will end up being a series to remember.
He's the most insufferable piece of shit maybe in all of sports right now. Extremely verbally abusive to refs all game every game and does the dirtiest shit possible any chance he gets. Literally anyone else in the league would be ejected and suspended for doing half of what he does every game, while the Warriors org just keeps making excuses for him and laugh about it while the players he injures are still writhing in pain on the ground. As a Cavs fan who had to watch four straight finals of that shit last night got me all riled up again. Hope the Warriors get swept

if i personally was jordan poole, im not playing on the same floor as a guy who sucker punched me square in the face during practice just for throwing a shady comment. lost so much respect for kerr/warriors organization for not booting draymond tf out. never understood why this dude gets special treatment. i do think hes under appreciated as a role player, but i just cannot see how u can justify keeping him around after that.
warriors chemistry this year just isnt what its always been. lesgo kings
I’m just here to admit I have been wrong about the Kings. They’ve stayed composed thus far, executed their offense, and not let the Warriors knock them off their game. They’ve won those games despite not even shooting great, which can be really encouraging. I don’t trust the team that only succeeds when it’s all going right.
Shoutout to PacificRimJob, how bout them Kings?
And yeah Draymond is that kind of a dick where he was obviously in the wrong and could cost them two games now with his suspension, yet will insist this is the cost of being his teammate. As if a competitive adult can’t possibly keep it together long enough not to fuck up another playoff series with non basketball flagrant shit. Dude loves to call out others for not being about that life, then chooses violence in the must chickenshit ways. Steven Adams should’ve slapped the love of god out of him back in 2016.
I dont fuck with draymond but its kinda wack he got suspended a game. Him getting ejected was one of the reasons they lost game two and they should have left it with that, especially with this next game being a pretty deciding game of the series.

Maybe he should've considered that his actions have consequences before stomping on the chest of a competitor. Taunting the crowd before Sabonis got up again proves he had zero remorse for potentially injuring another player. Draymond has a long history of being a dipshit and it's finally catching up to him. The NBA is saying that they don't tolerate that kind of behavior.

Yeah totally agree on the history of his actions, but personally I thought sabonis deserves just as much blame. He was grabbing onto draymond earlier in the game and also lowkey grabbed his foot before the stomp. Draymond definitely meant to stomp no one is questioning that but sabonis initiated it.

gotta disagree
Basketball isnt necessarily a gentlemens game, but that cowboy shit doesnt fly. Respect for ur opponent is a huge part of hoop culture, draymond fucking chest stomping somebody sends the wrong message about how the game is supposed to be played to the viewers...... dude has gotten away with way too much shit. fully support a suspension

Yeah I agree he deserves a suspension for his long history of shitty actions but preventing him from playing in a deciding playoff game is kinda wack. I want to see both teams play each other at full strength

It's a shame because the Draymond drama detracts from the fact that the Kings are just plain outplaying the defending champs. Unfortunately, Sacramento isn't getting the attention they deserve since Draymond got himself ejected. The media attention has shifted. Sac is 100% legit and they've grinded through a tough series against a great opponent so far.

Thought we were maybe about to another malice at the palace situation the way he was going at the crowd,

Charles Barkley said it himself... The Kings are just kicking the Warriors asses right now... and Draymond being in the game wasn't stopping that... It will be interesting to see if the Kings turn to a more paint-presence and start feeding a lot more inside with Draymond out... that will open up a lot more space for the Kings to run their offence. Dangerous.
supremeblientelethey should have set something up for fox.
barnes gotta be kicking himself rn
Poor Barnes had been dreaming about that shot since 2016. It's going to haunt him. He's played it off pretty well in interviews since yesterday, but it's gotta sting
