Mountains with good music scenes

Hello NS,

Am wondering… which resorts/towns/mountains have a good music scene? I’m a musician who wants to entertain as well as have easy access to mountain activities. Across the US and the larger, the better!

If I hear another person ask me in Utah if I've heard the Pixie Grass and the Party Boys....

But nah the hardcore/punk/metal scene is thriving in SLC. PC might be worth checking out for playing in bars and stuff.

I feel like every mountain town has a decent music scene, live music at a bar is a staple of a ski town imo

Gallatin valley seems to have a ton of great music, especially through the summer. Music in the Mountains keeps me here more than skiing, tbh

there’s live music in every place that has bars. doesn’t mean it’s worth it when there are barely any bands/musicians in bozeman that are interesting whatsoever. looking for musicians with similar music tastes in bozeman is damn near impossible let alone the entire band scene revolves around 2 small bars.

- coming from someone who has played around bozeman for the last few years. if your goal is the entertain then that’s fine, if your goal is to not suck and build any following at all bozeman is not the place.

OP, kind of everywhere.

Fuck summit county but there's a decent music scene plus denver right there. Tahoe has a really good music scene. As eheath said most mountain towns for sure.

i currently play drums in a walmart grunge band called false flag

but huge? where? aside from left on tenth having a decent following. crack bong wasn’t big at all and was one of the only metal bands in bozeman that wasn’t cringe.

my point is you think you know everything but you've lived in bozeman for 2 years of covid and 1 year of regular shit, bozeman has tons of good music and always has shows and events, maybe give it a couple more years before you just say that its non existent. as others said, plenty of good musical groups have come out of the bozeman area.

i played music most of my young years, i stopped when I was like 16 cause i didnt wanna spend time doing it anymore, stupid ass side comment is completely unnecessary

why does that matter you don’t live here nor play in a band he’s mostly right

there’s no real “scene” it’s just a bunch of bands who aren’t very good or original and i’m in one of them!!!

- grateful dead fanboy groups
- shitty college indie rock outfits
- folk groups
- old country guys
- mumbo jumbo rock genre bands that post only memes on their IG and play strictly at the haufbrau and filling station
- cover bands
- rock bands that try to mix genres together but end up being cringe

dude you seem a bit pessimistic. Theres 60,000 people in bozeman, selling out the filling station is huge for a local band. I havent seen or heard of your band but I hope to one day.

OP to answer your question, Bozeman has a small music scene that is pretty passionate and easy to get into. It can pay the bills depending on what you play. I spent about a year doing music full time playing folk music at private parties, bars, and the various lodges in the area.

Summit is pretty rad. Ten mile music hall is sweet. Dillon amphitheater has some sweet shows, silverthorne gets some big crowds for first fridays and breweries and bars have an array of shows. But if I hear the name
El Paso Lasso (not a country band as
uou may suspect) i am triggered lol. All my employees would call out after their shows. Just show up hungover. Its fine.

Wow I'm actually agreeing with Eheath on this one. Weird take for sure- personal opinion doesn't make something good or bad. You sure named a lot of genres only to follow with they all suck and there's no music scene. That IS the scene, even if shitty in your opinion. Guess you've never been to a town that has zero bands before--> that's "no music scene"

Losing that impostor syndrome might be good for your band though. Don't sell yourself short man.

As mentioned, Tahoe/Reno. Used to go to the CBC for a good time. But I mean slc or denver will have a good scene purely by size and proximity but can you really count them as a mountain town? No.
