Hi, I am doing a project for a business class in school and my friend had the idea for a boot bag that would be able to dry your boots, mittens, or other wet items so that people would not have to take things out to dry every time they ski. I am really just trying to research if people would want this. Is this something people would pay an extra $50-$100 for or are you happy just taking things out to dry once you get home? The details about how exactly this will be accomplished are not totally clear, also there could be a UV light aspect so that bacteria could not start growing in the boots. But just consider the idea, if implemented in a way that is effective.
I wouldn’t buy it myself, but rich folks who buy their entire kit from one expensive retail store definitely would. It’s a cool project and I could see it being successful.
GourdI'm gonna be fr, I think this is ridiculous. Just another thing for rich folk to waste money on so they don't have to do a very simple task.
Ye, it's just for a project, and it wasn't my idea I'm just going with it because the actual idea doesn't affect our grade. It also already exists, both as a bag, and as individual boot dryers. But you pretty much described how to create a value in a capitalistic society. Make products to reduce effort for people willing to pay so that they can spend more time doing what they want, and less on what they don't want. I personally also would not buy it.
yeah, UV light to kill the bacteria would hopefully fix that, I hear ya with the concern though, idk how much can really be done to make ski boots less stinky even when they're not marinating in a bag.

Sounds like a fire hazard
also wasn’t there a thread identical to this that you made yesterday, or am I just tripping
I take my liners out of my boots after every day of skiing cause it lets everything properly air out and doesn't require a heater which is horrible for neoprene. There are plenty of portable wired ones that you could just stick in a bag with the cable hanging out to a power source.

True, it would probably be best as a touring backpack for overnight trips. But even then there are little portable ones for that like you said, not to mention how heavy it would probably be to tour with. I appreciate the feedback though

Major pro tip to dry your boots fast is pull the liner out and cram a towel or dry t shirt in there. Can slam it around too but leave in there for a few mins as soon as you can after skiing and then let air dry after that. Liners always bone dry in the morning and can even do a lot during lunch on a 50º day of spring skiing.
If you wanna make something I would buy, make something that I can attach to a backpack that lets me connect my boots hung over the sides. I sling my boots over a regular backpack connected at the powerstrap running through the handle but find they always swing loose which is annoying af.

This stuff about a T-shirt in the liner, may be the most crucial information I’ve learned in a couple years.
Yeah that’s what I told the kid whose idea it is lol. We’re not graded on the idea though so I’m just going along with it. The only real difference is that the backpack would already have it and a battery built in, but tbh who cares if you have to buy it separately lmao. I more was just trying to confirm my thought that you couldn’t make a real business out of it, unless it’s relatively small and only sells to high end ski shops in travel destination resorts like Park City, Jackson Hole, Aspen, Tahoe etc.
Create a drill battery powered boot dryer that fits in the back of a bag or car and Im sold. Just like a regular boot dryer except not too hot to catch something on fire, and make it run on a drill battery, maybe a scent or sum shit too. Way more convenient imo
