First boxes and rails.

Been puttin in work mainly on boxes, and tubes, few rails, was never a fan of boxes or rails but I frequent the park and just can’t stand skipping the features between the jumps.
I’m noticing my skis seem sticky on boxes but shoot off rails like a freaking rocket, Is this cause I don’t have de tuned edges? I also don’t have a. Dedicated park ski, so probably gonna cop one for the days I’m gonna pass thru the park.

No. Boxes pretty much always have a sticky feeling. Like a suction between the surface of area of your skis and your box. A well maintained wider rail will feel slippery

Wait what do you mean by shoot off like a rocket? Like they slide fast?

BradFiAusNzCoCaNo. Boxes pretty much always have a sticky feeling. Like a suction between the surface of area of your skis and your box. A well maintained wider rail will feel slippery

Could also be park crew not waxing the framing of the box, if it's a box with handrail like framing with puckboard in the middle.
Or the puckboard is chewed to shit from racers.

if I’m not catching edges, will a de tuned park ski feel smoother or slide faster? Not a fan of sliding rails on my other skis but…idk… I feel I could do without edge underfoot 99% of the time, and I’m itching to progress, first time in years to be learning something new, I can spin on and off but I wanna develop “on rail” skills not just pop slide pop

I’ve got detuned skis and boxes and rails feel pretty similar, boxes can sometimes feel slower though. Waxing your skis might help too.

Results may very but you will probably notice the difference on different types of rails, kinks and when you set spins off.

I can feel them sticking on shotguns, flatbars and thinner rails

You really should detune underfoot for grinding. Be we go over that a lot here so I’m not gonna lecture you lol. Boxes are typically sticky/slower. That’s why I try to put less ski on the box by sliding sideways instead of straight on 👍🏻

detune the shit out of your edges. mine are round when i am done with them. i also keep a gumstone in my car to round them off every week or so.

More surface area more friction besides that boxes tend to be stickier from my experience or at least slide it slower.

I did this earlier and caught an edge it was awesome 👏 I’m gonna define some of my narrow skis and prob get a dedicated park ski, had a lotta fun today

boxes are normally more sticky than rails. If you are shooting off rails like a rocket its most likely that you have naturally detuned your edges. You don't have to have a dedicated park ski but if you have a huge powder ski on rails it probably wont be as fun.
