Hey guys, so I’m getting my summer setup dialed in and I’m hoping to get a big pvc pipe (like 10” diameter). I’m probably going to end up buying one for around 400 bucks from a plumbing supply place (no, stealing one isn’t an option). My only question is, Do these break pretty easily from your guy’s experience and will I just be wasting my money and end up having to go metal? It’s the green 3034 sewer pipe stuff I have in mind but they also carry the blue stuff. Any advice is appreciated!
They’ll hold up. Just be careful moving them and such you could crack an end if you’re not careful. Especially in the cold.
shoutout to some (ex)-homies who cracked the fuck outta my tubes when I let them use them, had to shorten them things by a quarter of their original combined length. Don’t be that guy.
Sick thanks for tha input. Would you say they tend to crack from the end? So maby it would be smart to make it like ride on so nobody catches an edge on the end of it and blows it up?

Correct they crack easy from the end you could easily crack it if you caught an edge hard enough on it. That being said my pvc was a little more on the thinner end so as long as you find something that’s thicker than like a 1/4 inch you’ll be chilling
TheMoostafianAlso, $400? Was that a typo? If not, are you sure you aren't looking at the price for like 20 pieces?

I’m postitive unfortunately, for a 14 foot 10 inch 3034 pipe it is about 400 dollars. Stuff is ridiculously expensive which is why most people steal them. I just don’t have a car and my parents understandably won’t help me steal a pipe so I have to buy one.
Guess I didn't realize how expensive that shit is. I just checked though I can buy a 14' length for $220. Know any contractors? Ask to use their account to get a better price.

This place online has them listed at like 800 bucks… thankfully it’s not that much at my local plumbing supply
10” is a very uncommon size, standard applications are 99 percent going to be either 8” or 12”- but yeah the shit costs a fucking fortune, I always cringe a bit at people just taking shit from job sites if you aren’t familiar with construction you might be jacking some expensive ass pipe lol.
Also PVC is super bombproof just breaks down pretty rapidly from UV exposure, it’s designed to be in the ground starts to warp and get brittle in the sun.

Yea they are way more expensive than most people think. When people just steal them I don’t think they realize in many cases it’s actually grand theft and a pretty big deal

That’s foam core though. Foam core PVC is way more brittle. Solid core is noticeably heavier and designed to be used underground (it has red lettering foam core has black).
Michael.asquith_update I got a discount through a contractor no regrets. Only thing is boy is msnow sketchy to ski down compared to turf 😅
Aye sick setup. If you want more tube for your buck I’d recommend cutting the tube in half longways and rebuilding the wood holding up the rail. Then you can have twice the tube
This is how I’ve started building all my tubes lately

Great idea thanks. What do you use to cut it without cracking and chipping? Metal blade on a sawzall worked pre well for me to to cut the bell end off

Steel Grinding wheel on an angle grinder or cut off saw is very efficient for cutting pvc

I disagree on a sawzall or a angle grinder unless it’s all you have. I think a circular saw with a wood blade is the best for cutting long straight lines in large diameter pipe

Honestly I’ve never tried to cut a pipe like the one pictured with a skill saw. I’ve tried to cut thinner wall’ed PVC with a saw and it just explodes. A grinding wheel will kind of just melt it like butter.
Pretty much my thoughts except I worried that the circular saw might make the pipe explode. Maby more like a finishing blade

I cut PVC conduit with a general purpose wood blade on a circular saw at work all the time and I've never had a pipe crack from it. It can definitely still happen with a shitty blade or cut though. For plastics, blades with more teeth and shallower gullets will cut cleaner
Good to know I’ve never actually worked with any of that type material before
