I cant stay on a rail always falling backwards

keep your body on top of your feet, try to keep your weight even between your 2 feet, but also if you need to putting more weight towards your forward foot can be helpful

putting your weight on your back foot is a recipe for hip checks, because of the way you move on a rail it causes your feet to just slide out from under you

also looking towards the end of the rail with your head will help you keep your body weight a little more shifted towards the end of the rail instead of the point where you hop on or the sides, which keeps you a little more centered

absolutely this, keeping your front hand hovering around/ above your leading knee helped me out a lot.

Getting forward on a rail starts on the lip and in-run, get some weight in your shins when you are approaching

I’ve also heard get more speed then I’m usually comfortable with when approaching the rail. Dose that help or is it more personal preference?

hitting a rail with more speed = Less time on the rail = less time for error to occur.



it’s scarier but you’ll notice a difference almost immediately. Put more weight forward than you think you’ll need, look at and past the end of the rail.


buy some padded compression shorts too. It helps when you’re learning.

haven’t hit a rail in 3 years tho so don’t listen to anything I say

I say go faster. He's right, less time on the rail so its like totally safer.

Was it a down rail or relatively flat? Try and get your bearings on some mellower rails, and think about your shoulders being parallel to the rail.

If it's a down rail, I always mentally prep to drop that front shoulder and lean downhill.

Also I second getting some cheap padded shorts. If not just for the confidence boost.

Another tip is look at the end of the rail the whole time.

what totally changed the game for me was taking the rail to switch on purpose. You basically just keep rotating and it helped me stay ontop of the rail, but also helped the whole not turning completely 90 degrees problem as well, which i think contributes to the being backseat and falling off problem.
