I think we should all calm down and take a minute. This isn’t a contest to prove who is better or anything like that. There is a long history that informs people’s experiences and honestly it’s pretty bitter and negative against indigenous people with few exceptions. I think it’s important to realize and understand who’s land you’re occupying- your house and mine was built on a parcel of land that was occupied for 10,000 years prior to our ancestors arrival so I don’t think it’s too much to ask to show a little respect.

Im still waiting to see the graphic in question. While I do agree that supporting an appropriate artist within a certain culture is a good idea, when is cancel culture going to stop.
How dare any ski company exist that isn’t Norwegian (or Chinese I suppose since the origins of skiing are up for debate). Any ski company not owned, manufactured in or by Norwegians / the Chinese are profiting off someone else’s culture and it needs to stop.
IsaacNW82Lots of hearsay going on here, Nahanni's (who is in fact Native btw) IG story isn't up anymore but this is the gist of it (from memory, take the details with a grain of salt):
She was doing some type of project (school maybe?) about indigenous graphics and the ski industry and came across a ton of Folsom graphics labelled "cultural" like a dream catcher. She asked if the artist was indigenous in an IG comment and they DM'd her basically saying this should be an email and that she was cyber-bullying them. So, she deleted the comments and sent them an email asking the same question.
They replied super defensive, indicated they don't care what ethnicity makes their graphics (and implied it was wrong for Nahanni to ask), the graphics where legally Folsom's IP, there was a hang up about a ski graphic based off the Hudson Bay Blanket design. Apparently, Folsom was defending it saying an employee from upstate NY came up with the idea, and Nahanni replied saying that the Blanket was used to intentionally spread disease to Natives in Canada, and gave them a few book titles about the matter.
I don't remember if Folsom responded or not but they did block her on IG and removed the graphics from their website, which prompted her posting about this publicly. She said she doesn't like cancel culture and didn't think she'd go after someone like this but after their interaction she thought it was justified.

Was it the Bay Blanket design that people are claiming Folsom "culturally appropriated"? Still no one has posted a single photo of this offending artwork, so I'm not sure. But what you're talking about is the Bay Blanket and its "violent" history. The Bay Blanket isn't a native American design. It was created in England, by wHiTe PeOpLe, and traded to natives. So to the extent it is now being used for profit by canadian or american "natives," they are the ones culturally appropriating it from Europeans.
But its also been debunked the blankets were intentionally used to spread disease at all. And to the extent it occurred unintentionally, there is only a spotty record that it may have happened a single time ever.
