I'm the only skier in this video. How can I improve my rail stuff? This is my first season back on rails for 2ish years

I can do front 2's to but whenever I get on a rail it's kinda just a rush and I can't think enough to try a new trick

Try practicing on a nicely iced up 2x4, I'm talking 2-3 liters of water at least. plop that fucker down and start getting jibby with it.
The more ice the more slide, and the longer the 2x4 the more technical you can get.

build up your rail basics on flat low boxes or tubes and build up the confidence.

some basic rail skills:

edgeing with your toe
edgeing with your heel (scissoring)
using your inside edge to hold place on the side of a tube (locking)
seperating what your upper and lower body (skis 90 upper body looking up or down the rail)
doing hops on the rail, a gentle kink helps with this
surface spins on a wide dancefloor style box
the one foot rail tricks (backslide i think the kids are calling it)
tail/tip taps
50/50s with some shuffles
tail press
wobbles
over all just get comfortable with sliding and trying different actions.

i see so many people trying 270 on before being able to lock/scissor. like yea theyll eventually learn it and get some bruises. but having a good foundation is key to learn without getting hurt.

repetition is king with rails. get as many hits as you can. hiking can be quicker, but i see you have a rope tow...

Looks good to me. Maybe work on sliding with your other foot forward and do some 2s out.

It looks like it's just mental, try straight sliding some bigger rails or longer ones and really focus on what your gonna do

I mean you can always go back to boxes and try edging on them to learn new tricks with less risk. I think you just need to get comfortable and be realistic with yourself. If you feel rushed while sliding a rail maybe wait until you feel no rush with sliding a rail. Sometimes I find that once I'm comfortable on a rail the tricks just come on their own.

This is probably not what you want to hear as I'm assuming that you used to have a good rail game and want to get back to it asap. So maybe my advice sucks.

One more thing I might suggest is trampoline skis and a jib bar. I made these and I felt like I got more comfortable and it was fun

Pretty good but next time take it to the 2x4. its too early for plastic, you gotta learn to slide wood first.

Most importantly you just need to spend time on rails. You feel uncomfy because you haven't hit a lot of rails. Just spend time hitting a lot of rails. Sounds overly simplified but there's a reason Will Wesson is Will Wesson.

I think people need to pay more attention to this comment. The 2x4 really gives you so many possibilities packed into one simple plank. For example, find a pile of snow, now you have an up 2x4 (or a down 2x4 if you play your cards right). The best part is you can just use any old 2x4, just make sure to remove the nails and staples from it before use- or if you want to be core af: leave them in. Once you master a trick on the 2x4 you can easily bring it to a rail easily, a rail is just a metal 2x4 when you think about it.

I've eaten shit many times since the making of this thread. As of now I've learned front swaps,backswaps, and got better at backslides
