Is it ethical to steal resort food?

Is it ethical to partake in the act of "stealing" food from resorts such as vail? Well, one could certainly look at this moral dilemma from a few different angles. After putting a large amount of thought into the subject I have formed my own opinion and it stands as: it is okay to steal food from large corporate owned ski resorts.

My reasoning behind this decisions is that resorts are borderline stealing from the customer to begin with. A one day pass at Park City utah is around $200. In my opinion, that is fuckng retarded. I spent nearly $700 for a 3 day pass. I do not blame Alterra mountain company for this, as it was my decision to go, and frankly the park was fucking bitchin.

My point is, I think when already spending that much money to ski, it is unfair to charge $17 for a mid hamburger and $7 for a vitamin water.

I round my conclusion back to... I think it is okay to walk out of the extremely crowded cafeteria with $80 of food on your tray as long as you dont get caught.

I am interesting to here your guys opinion upon this matter.

(fun fact) I then proceeded to knuckle the second 65 foot kicker.

I mean idk where you draw the line on who it’s ok to steal from. If everyone stole lunch there would not be any lunch anymore. What’s the difference between Vail and Safeway, Home Depot, Key Bank? It’s just kind of scummy IMO if you don’t like what they are selling don’t buy it.

As much as you try to justify it, stealing is almost never morally ok unless you’re stealing something back that was stollen from you. Even if you don’t care about the corporation, the act of stealing their food will still negatively impact people. It could negatively affect the kitchen staff, kitchen manager, or security. The corporation might make changes to combat the theft that will negatively affect others. So on and so forth.. Just don’t do it. If you can’t afford their food at the prices they are trying to sell it for, then wait until you leave to eat or bring your own food. It’s not that hard…

Mega corporations don’t care about how they negatively effect the towns they take over and we’re supposed to care that some stolen chicken fingers are negatively effecting their bottom line?

Lodge food is usually greasy garbage, about the same quality and nutrition as McDonalds. If you don't wanna go drop stacks on slop then go to a grocery store and make something that will be way healthier and cost less. I usually make sandwiches cause they're easy to eat and don't need to be heated. Egg salad, tuna, reuben, pickle and cheese, pbj, turkey, pulled pork. Cold cuts mayo lettuce hot sauce and that's like $1-2 per sandwich. Stock up on condiments at the hill.

This is the problem when we have young kids that never saw Charlie Ager's bum life. You dont steal from resorts, you pretend to be a bus boy and grab all the half eaten food and put it together. This kind of thing used to be common knowledge.

Yeah because people always plan all activities in their life months in advance. This guy should just time travel back to November and buy an Epic pass because decided he wants to ski in Utah this winter right? Should he just not ski and wait until next year when he can buy an Epic?

I paid $144 to ski Sunday River yesterday. My friend had reciprocity but slept though his alarm or whatever the fuck I get there at 9am and hes 90 mins behind so I just ate it. It sucked. But I should have bought Ikon right they would have just sold me one on the spot?

Didn't read any of what you said. I'm 37 and I've done shit, I've learned shit. While I don't personally steal anything anymore due to being a grown adult, I will say this:

With all things, never EVER consciously steal from local, small, 'ma & pa' businesses - ever. Corporate on the other hand, have at 'er. They're killing life on the planet so morally, fuck 'em. Of course if you get caught and how the situation goes down, it might fuck you over. Only criminals get caught and nobody wants a record.

You can't ski with a grill and a bunch of meat its not a freaking NFL game.

A family of 8 in Africa can eat for a month on what it costs to get a burger, fries, and beverage at Vail. Fuck them for charging that. They aren't selling food on a street where there are 10 other options these are typically public access national lands. Skiing is as much a public utility as it is a private business (yes there is a grey area and fuck you if you can't see that.)

I feel like everyone goes through a phase where stealing doesn’t seem like a big deal. I’ve had tons of friends get huge tickets for shoplifting and to me it just ain’t worth it. So OP, yes it’s probably justified to steal from resorts cuz the charge crazy amounts of money for everything but it’s definitely not worth the risk

keep in mind anyone spending $700 on a 3 day pass is almost assuredly living a lifestyle which is viewed as extractive, unnecessary, and wasteful by the majority of the world. Whatever fuck your property right too.

I'm pretty sympathetic to stealing from corporations that are demonstrably unethical, but I'd imagine that if enough people stole lodge food then they'd just raise the prices for everyone, rather than lower the salary of a CEO by any amount.

the problem with that logic is that you are not the Supreme Judge of morality as far as who deserves to be stolen from and who Doesn't. Is someone else justified to steal from you if they think you're a bad person?

First, just put a sandwich in your pocket like a goddamn adult. Second, your gonna steal a meal that cost 4% of what you just spent to ski for three days? Anyone who drops $700 on a three-day pass has extra cash and can handle the cost of a burger. Third, you think you’re stealing from Vail, but Vail doesn’t give a shit. Your stealing from whoever has to manage the restaurant’s inventory and who now has to explain why their revenue doesn’t match their expenditures. If you want to steal from Vail you need to step it up from petty burger theft.
