2022 Olympics (for the other events) Thread.

I'm sure ski big air, pipe, and slope will get plently of attention in Ski Gabber but theres a lot more to the games to excited about so thats what this thread is for.


Personally I'm excited to watch moguls and short track and will turn into a raging nationalist for hockey. What else are you guys hyped on?

Also so everyone understands how broadcast works, OBS (Olympic broadcast services) provides a host feed, and pretty much everyone else takes that feed and adds their own logo and commentators to it.
NBC is also there to provide American coverage, they usually have a camera at the top, bottom, and somewhere in between the runs (usually from the start).

Here at Genting, there are two production crews, team 1 (which I am a part of) covers the slopestyle and cross events. Team 2 is a Chinese crew, and from what I’ve heard and understand, they aren’t as experienced with snow sports.

which is why some of these earlier pipe broadcasts have had weird cuts and weaker camera work. No hate, but our crew just has a ton more experience. It sucks, because the judges get a direct feed from the broadcast (as well as cable cam and long lens at the bottom). So if cuts are off, judging can be hampered

Snowboard judging was suspect. Dude did the most progressive run ever in pipe and got second. Luckily did the last run even beter and gave the judges the option to not be stupid.

Just hung out and watched everyone throw down for slope training. Y’all are in for a treat, they added a jump for the watchtower roof rail, and a few other tweaks.

seems like the skew jumps are throwing some skiers off, was talking with Henrik, and even he said it puts him so corked, but everyone is stoked on the park set up regardless.

Womens slope goes down Sunday (local time, so north America’s Saturday night)

Qualifiers Sunday here. Then finals on the Monday morning. After finals it’s mens qualifiers in the afternoon. And mens finals Tuesday.

Pretty fun. I work a lot of sports events, both close to home and across the world. I did halfpipe, aerials, and moguls for Korea. Now it’s slopestyle and cross here.
Ski slope is the only event I haven’t worked yet, so I’m pretty excited for it.
olympics are pretty much the only time I post on here anymore. Just an old lurker these days

That was an amazing finals.
Mereyta getting stomped on mid air, but still getting 3rd. And stoked on Baumgarter for getting his medal redemption. He was pretty bummed from the last cross race. Stoked for Canada and US on the medals.

They're gonna let the Russian teen figure skater chick who failed her drug test compete, but IOC will not hold a ceremony if she medals.

My initial thought was "Eh what's the big deal, it's a medicine she needs to manage a health condition, why is it even banned?"

But that's what I said about Lance Armstrong, and it turned out that he was like staying up all night trying to figure out how to skrrt the doping rules.

Now I just imagine Kamila Valieva sitting in a Chinese hotel room at 2am getting an arm injection while Vladamir Putin sits in the corner watching.

God i kinda hate figure skating. Earlier this week i was like “ehh it’s actually alright” 10 minutes later i’m falling asleep on the couch.
and this russian girl totally botched one of her spins almost fell, she gets first by a huge margin then next girl comes out and lays a near flawless routine but judges nitpick the exact degrees of her spins when the russian girl got away with a straight botch that woulda scored a 70 in skiing, but no i guess the Russians performance was more “artistic”
fuck all that and that stupid fucking event let me watch hockey

Happy with the outcome of the mens slopestyle... but did anyone else think that scoring was whack?

I'm not sure how Fabian Bosch's first run scored a 70 something?

Same with quite a few other runs i was expecting mid 80's at least that were scored mid to high 70's?

I'm glad USA won gold and silver but I wasn't too sure about how Hall scored a 90.05?

Andre Ragettli had some monstrous runs with perfect rails with some low scores...

Only made worse by them letting the Russian athlete continue to compete even after testing positive for banned substances. Russian team saying she 'accidentally' took her grandfathers heart medication. BS. I thought Russians weren't supposed to be allowed to compete at these Olympics anyways.

Kinda, but you’re vastly overblowing it. You act like Slovakia, especially Sweden, never could beat USA and Canada with NHL players. Hell, just a couple olympic games ago even Germany won it and I’m pretty sure NHLers were playing back then. Team chemistry beats out talent

What we would do to have that Vancouver games back. No games since have come close in hockey.

Nah, not overblowing it. There's no way Slovakia would have beat the US this year with NHL players. Sweden has excellent players, but there would be no comparison to Canada's hypothetical team this year if NHL players were involved. The top Swedish players would have a tough time making Canada's 4th line this year. Team chemistry is important, and has in the past been the difference maker, but it only gets you so far. There's a reason Canada has dominated when NHL players are involved.

There is simply no way a group of United States college hockey players could beat a team of Russian professionals in an Olympic hockey game. That would have to be a miracle on ice or something.

Bobsledding is totally a pay to win sport. There is so much tech that goes into those sleds... and the Germans spend the most. That's why women's monobob is so cool, the sled's are standardized in that event
