Starting off in park with standard mounted skis

I've been skiing for a long time but this year is the first year I'm looking at getting into park riding. I have a pair of 2018/19 armada ARV 106s that are my current all mountain ski, but I have them mounted like a traditional ski would so they are pretty far off center. I think they are a little closer to center than the recommended mount but still nowhere near dead center. Anyways, I've been trying to learn some of the basic tricks/maneuvers like 180s, 360s, riding switch, etc. I was wondering if my current setup is going to hinder me in my progression, or if it's fine for what I'm doing. Skiing switch is what im working on right now, and it seems pretty hard without center mounts. I could move my mount position closer to center, but I'm unsure if it's going to make all mountain skiing harder. Maybe there is a good middle point I can remount to? Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Remount if it doesn’t mess up your ski too much. You’ll be fine and just plan on center mounting the next pair if you don’t wanna remount.

Slap another pair of bindings true center on those puppy’s then have ur homie come along for the park progression

First measure and let us know where exactly they're mounted.

So did you do freeride mount or freestyle?

it’s a difference of -5 and -2.5. It’s really not that big of a difference I can hit the things you listed on my jeffereys besides rails(just don’t want to detune them) at rec which is -4 or so.

I have a pair of center mounted CT 1.0s that I use for park. If you can’t afford another ski even used then yeah remount but I would personally because if it’s your widest ski it’ll suck on deep days

I think you’ll be fine. You see people on more direction line blades and sakanas in the park nowadays. I have some more direction skis I occasionally take in the park.

Only time I ever felt a ski really wasn’t made for park was a 105 underfoot ski with two sheets of Titanal and a flat tail. Damn that thing would slam down and hurt my knees on park jumps!

Mounting the ski further forward isn't necessarily going to make it ride better switch if the ski is designed to be mounted behind center. People on here are very quick to say you always need to mount center to ride park and honestly I don't buy it. You'll be fine without a remount, especially on a non-symmetrical ski.

I feel like everyone i've met has started off on some form of off center mounted skis. One of my best friends in skiing has been working on switch lips and swap combos on back mounted skis. They might hinder your ability slightly on rails, but as long as you arnt standing over the tails you should be perfectly fine.

remount them to the team freestyle point it’s like -2 or -2.5 cm from center on the 106 i believe. it definitely changes the way that they ski all mountain with more tail behind your foot, takes some getting used to, but they have a freestyle mounting line for a reason, cuz that’s where a lot of people ride them. if you wanna get more into park skiing and think changing the mount will help then do it.

edit: like broto said don’t mount skis at center that aren’t intended to be mounted at center. if there’s no true center marking out of the factory chances are it will negatively affect the ski to put them there

A remount isn’t a big deal, but I can tell you that skiing switch on a “traditional” mount isn’t a deal breaker for learning.

Keep at it bub, no matter what you end up doing with the skis. I will tell you that being able to ski switch well is a bigger panty dropper than doing tricks in the park.
