Backflip Dilemma

So I have been wanting to learn backflips for a few years, (tried one three years ago but fucked my back so bad i didnt ski for a week, hadnt ever done one on tramp so idk what i was thinking) and I really want to get one this season, preferably on a park jump. Im scared, and ive only done a handful on tramp this fall. I also really want to learn flatspins and corks, but i think I should learn a backflip first. Should i just go for flatspins/corks anyway or learn backflips, & do i need to practice more on tramp before trying them on a park jump?

Backflips easier then cork imo

Coming from someone who did their first backflip on a park jump last season my best advice is to go build a booter into some powder with your buds and go toss yourself off that until you have them down. If this isnt possible for you then find a decent sized jump that gives you room for error. That being said the worst thing you can do is half commit when you go for it as it’ll end up way worse that some slight over rotation on the landing. I was doing backflips on tramps for years before I finally did one on skis and it definitely helped me get them down. Best of luck good sir

You need to learn them on the trampoline with absolute confidence.


Here’s the thing, back flips on skis depending on the lip angle and landing pitch are really like 3/4 backflips, where on a tramp you’re going flat to flat. It’s also usually quite bit bigger air than on the tramp. So you have to develop that air sense on the trampoline of how to spot your landing early and micro adjust or you are kind of just asking for more hard bails.

360s first. Learn centered body position on take off before attempting.

Do you mean cork 3 or flatspin 3? because i can 360 and 540 just fine, im just scared of backflips and havent done one on a tramp since early fall

Good enough for me.
park jumps are kinda tough to flip unless they got kick. I find a good steep jump with a long transition sends you nicely into the motion.
Its all its the hips. Push the hips up, square the shoulders and puff out the chest in the take off. Your shoulders, back and knees should be straight at the pop. Bend the knees for speed control. Tuck now if you need to get around quick.
Look back once you cleared the lip and enjoy the ride.

Every gaper does the same noob mistake; on the heels and tuck half way up the jump. Then land on their head. Dont do that, unless ya want deja vu with back injury.

Personally, I have found diving board offer a more realistic experience for jumps than the tramps because you have a single takeoff and are launching forward. Work on doing a bunch of clean jumps on a diving board with your eyes level then work on doing flips off the board. It will help a lot when you finally get to bring them to skis. That and you can throw fat gainers off the high dives and look like a G. Assuming there are any high dives left anymore which is weak.

I would really get them down well on a trampoline first man. If you want t get really good at backflips and get them down faster you gotta create good habits. I didn’t do them enough on a trampoline before skis and it took my forever to break out of my bad habits.

I did a flat 3 first and I still find backflips more scary and haven't done one in a while. It's personal preference which one u do first. Backflip is probably a lot more common as a first flip
