Hey guys,
I am in for new skies and wanted to get some input. I am an advanced + skier who never really cared about gear. But after a decade on my old Scratch Sprayer BC it's time for a new pair. I recently bought some Dalbello AX HD with custom insoles because they fitted me the best (I have some trouble with my right foot and they were the easiest to get into).
I used to ski in Switzerland but nowadays I am skiing a lot more in a small ski resort (Sudelfeld) here in Bavaria, Germany.
I am looking to start touring on piste in the resort to get my feet wet. So I would say my use case will be 90%/10%.
My initial plan was to buy one set of skies, put some Shifts on it and call it a day. After some more research and some horrible stories about the shift binding I am not so sure anymore.
First ski:
With my girlfriend being a beginner I am looking for a ski with which I can have fun without waiting for her the whole day. I do like to go switch and do some rotations but nothing overly fancy, no rails at all and no butters yet. If she is not with me I prefer GS turns & short turns on higher speed (last time i clocked it was around 80 km/h while doing GS). I don't really care about the piste difficulty or if there are moguls - I just want to have fun and get in the flow.
Revolt 104 - fun little skies but I am hesitant of the speed limit and if they are maybe too much freestyle orientated for me.
Ranger 102 - speedy bastards but maybe they are asking me to much to go fast so that in the end I have to wait all day long again (I know this is a self restraining issue but I hope you get my point)
regarding butters: I never tried them but maybe this will be a whole new area of skiing to enjoy?! I don't know yet.
Binding:
Is the shift capable for my use case (Duke PT is to heavy i think - and I don't like marker)? Or would you stick to a cheapo binding (STH2) and put it on the Revolts and later on get a dedicated pin binding for the Rangers. Or the other way around?
This would include a second set of skies which I don't really prefer. I am more of a one ski quiver guy or if at all get some bigger powder skies or some slalom skies - just something completely different.
Would really like to hear from you and your own perspective. Thanks for the help in advance.
Kind regards
Edrec
