PrunedLankly3. The resorts aren’t expensive enough. When I roll into the mountain, I expect and want to pay $250 for my day pass. They don’t milk the Texans enough.

PrunedLanklyWhy does everyone hate Vail? I don’t get it. They’re minimizing parks for more bunny hills which is so awesome for skiing. More areas to learn and less space for degenerates to smoke pot and injure themselves.

Vail is pushing skiing in the right direction by eliminating parks.


Also, every mountain should adapt mountain safety patrollers like Vail mountains. It’s ridiculous when I’m trying to enjoy my day and then an idiot comes flying by me at 50 mph. This needs to be enforced at EVERY mountain in a stringent manner.

I love Vail Resorts and everything they’re doing for the real ski community.

Idk. I’ve been skiing the vail own resorts the past few years and before that, switching between the epic pass and the other pass that Colorado has(now ikon). After such, I can understand why people hate on vail. Some of the mountains are pre fun like Breck, Vail, and CB, but the big difference between vail and alterra is influence. Vail tries time and time again to stay as one without much variation(if at all) in how the resorts are run(same signs, yellow jackets, etc) while Alterra and the rest respect individual resort culture. Recently read a snippet from an interview with Alterras CEO about respecting individual culture. This is why places like Steamboat still hold the cowboy downhill and other resorts seem to be more or less the same other than advancements in lift line technology(scanning gates). Vail has all but ruined the culture of their hills. The cardboard downhill(now at steamboat I think) used to be at vail. Other events used to go down too. Now Vail resorts seem to cling to big box events like the US Open and Birds of Prey to name a couple instead of sticking with tradition. The Vail today is not the same Vail is was 20-30 years ago. When it was Vail Associates, the oldies I’ve talked too would say that those were better times when the company was more about skiing instead of shareholders. I do give the current vail credit in making seasonal skiing more affordable with their pioneered epic pass to access multiple hills as the first company to do so, but that’s about it. The hills may have some element of enjoyment, but realize it used to be much better back in the day. The Vail now doesn’t even embrace the progression of the sport as much as they used too at select places(some haven’t changed too much). The industry is definitely shifting however to more big name corporations though which is just something that happens over time sadly.
