Stab Magazine's "Stab In The Dark" but with skis?

Random thought:

For anyone who hasn't seen Stab In The Dark basically, it's an event put on by Stab Magazine (Surf magazine) where a group of the best shapers in the world make a surfboard for a mystery world tour surfer. They have no idea of the surfer's preferences or style. The surfer then rides each of the boards rating which are their favorites and guessing which board is which shaper.

Do you think it would be sick to have an event like this with a skier and various independent ski manufacturers (ON3P, Vishnu, Foon, Fatypus, etc.)?

Id like to see a combo of this but I doubt major ski manufacturers give 1/100th of a shit

a more viable series in the back of my mind would be something in the same vein as skolf, since riders are more enabled to make it happen

Would be dope. In the stab concept they are normally going for a "high performance" model which is basically like an all around short board, usually geared towards people who compete or want to ride at a 'competition' level. Also they shapers know the height, weight, and preferred board size of the person who will be testing.

So to transfer that to skiing they would need to have similar process and also agree upon a style of ski - park, all mtn, freeride, powder, etc. - so that all the brands could be compared. I also think that stab actually gives them a two week window to test which gives them a good amount of time to get a feel for things.

I think if it were a web series or movie it would be awesome to watch

the only thing that links them is that its a competition on snow? anyway i reiterate my point a competition with some crazy ass tricks and setups would be cool to watch people attempt with some solid interview/commentating

Love stab in the dark, such a sick concept.

May be hard with skis though... I feel like the industry is so small that it would be hard to disguise a ON3P vs a Vishnu

Absolutely.

Stab in the dark is so sweet would love to see something similar ski related.

Random conditions with various 100-110mm skis and choose the overall winner over a week period.

What are ski molds made out of? Just saw on a TGR thread that @iggyskier made his shapes out of MDF which I guess shouldn't be pricey to shape at all.
Yeah that would be cool, maybe people like him and JLev would be down for that.

Sick idea, but in surfing shaping a surfboard is a skill more than a science. I mean that a surfboard might look the exact same as another surfboard but ride completely differently. You’d be able to distinguish a vishnu from a moment ski in an instance, while the pro surfers in stab in the dark get the shaper of the surfboards wrong all the time. Amazing concept, just hard to transfer to skiing. Also I feel like the brands in ski manufacturing are so into themselves they’d never agree to not put their logo directly on a ski.

Agreed just based on shape and feeling of the ski alone is would be easy to tell.
