Fix My Shit Yo! (Need Advice)

I'm a poor college kid and I can't afford new skis. I've got 3 year old vishnus with zero edge underfoot left, mad delamination, and I think the core inside the tail snapped (but the topsheet/base kinda holds it in place so it's okay I think??).

Anyway, does anyone have experience replacing an entire edge underfoot?
I know I could probably just epoxy literally the entire edge all along the ski like some people do (I've seen pics of ur V's Ryan lmao) but if that doesn't last this season I'm completely screwed.

Also, would it be wise to glue/epoxy some sort of metal bracket or wood to the ski where it snapped as a brace/splint so they don't come apart when I ride them?

I'm not too concerned about safety or anything (the pivot 18s mounted on them won't release even if I try no matter the din setting and both the metal toe-pieces are cracked and held back together with jb weld) and I can't really afford to be concerned with safety anyway so I'm literally open to doing anything as long as it holds my skis together.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. The struggle is very, very real.

I'm not skiing anything too big on these. I'm literally just hitting rails this year so I think it'll be fine.
Alternatively, I am concerned but I can't admit it to myself because I can't justify spending the money to do anything about it :/

I have seen repairs like that and the majority of them last around a week. At this point it might be best just looking for a pair of used skis. You'll have to bite the bullet for new skis eventually if they are in that bad of shape

You comfortable spending the rest of your life with knee pain/issues over a few hundred dollars? You can buy attack 13s for less than $200.

If you insist, definitely still plenty of opportunities for injury when hitting rails. Just remember that you can get Tyrolia Attack bindings for like $150 whereas knee surgery will set you back big time.

Sounds like a solid plan too me. The hard part will be getting enough clamps to make sure the edge is seated properly along the side cut.

Hey OP, I was in the exact same situation my freshman year of college... Vishnus beat to shit, poor as a joke... But what I did have was some West System G-Flex Epoxy, an ACE Hardware within walking distance, and patience.
(Could utilize this website for all materials: https://www.tognar.com/edge-repair-ski-snowboard-steel/ though I recommend Irwin Quick Grips for clamps (or similar style), but perhaps: https://www.snowboardmaterials.com/index.php/materials/edges for your edges, they're imported from Germany and Austria, fancy!)
I had countless edge cracks so I replaced ~18 inches by cutting the broken edge with aviation snips, then cutting ~0.5cm (yeah, we're mixing imperial and metric units) into the width of the base, and then down the length to the other cut in the edge. I then peeled away the base material allowing me to pop the edge out. I had to cut a little bit of the base/wood down with a razor blade to allow the replacement edge to sit flush with the rest of the base but also deep enough into the width of the ski so the replacement edge is flush with the length of the ski.
I don't have pictures of the process but I did this in my dorm room with hand tools I had lying around or could borrow from the front desk. No need for power tools, it's a labor of love.
(Pictures don't do my repair justice)

The ski in question: (It looks a lot worse than it actually is. West System G-Flex Epoxy slides like butter (or your normal base material)).

Front of the replaced edge, damn near perfect taper into the existing edge:

The rear of replacement edge, the fit could be better, but it's held up for 3+ years no problem:

Cannibalize a section of edge from an old pair of skis and then use these tiny edge repair screws to secure it in place. Then fill it with titebond exterior wood glue and clamp it for 24 hours. The only problem is that the repair will outlive the rest of the edge underfoot.

Holy shit that is amazing. I thought I'd repaired skis far past the worth it point. This is dedication to refusing to buy new skis.

PS OP get new bindings, Pivot 15's are $305, Older Tyrolia Attacks $99, Marker Griffons $170, heck if you go to a ski shop and ask for old demo bindings you can usually get stuff for like $20 if they even charge you, sometimes they'll take beer instead.

I got a pair of used griffons I got at thrift store for 5 bucks. Dear god man I get money is tight. But that set up is dangerous as fuck. Not worth your heath.

@270on420out i like that solution too but wouldn’t the edge just re crack in a bunch of spots then fall out again or did your mini screws keep it in?

Last year my front binding was broken so I told my self after teaching I would go home. Well I forgot and went off the 40 footer I remember watching my ski falling underneath me, somehow landed a 180 and didn't get hurt but my skiis were already drilled through to many times so I was stuck with rc4s the rest of season.

Enlighten me on why West Systems G-Flex Epoxy is superior to the run of the mill hardware store epoxy. I usually just use the JB weld brand "clearweld" epoxy cuz it's free-dolla at home depot

I've just had fantastic personal experience with it and ski repair. The flexibility and durability is unmatched, flexible but solid as a rock. It's great stuff. I also use it to secure my mounting screws.
I saw a post on NewSchoolers years ago and had to try it out.. never looked back.
