It really depends on what the land agreement with the forest service says. They can already build chair lifts, chalets, cut timber, and charge people for useing services on public lands. They are doing what Colorado has done for years.
The letter just says he’s concerned and wants Cummings to reconsider.
It not like any politician gonna get anything thing done.

Still I think its a step in the right direction. A community can only to so much against a massive corpo like POWDR. Having someone with real power even if its a politician is nice to see. Especially if more politicians in Utah and Colorado speak up. Its definitely in there best interest as it can certainly bring in votes from a younger demographic. It makes me wanna vote for him
Fast Tracks being a daily option to purchase is the issue. People who want to use it multiple times but cant afford it more than once (more or less equal to buying a more expensive season pass) are typically the people who go a lot and are better, and generally will go through the line and get on the lift quickly.
The people who buy it every time they go are also most likely the people who only go a few times and might be more likely to move slowly thru the line or cause a delay while getting on the chair.
Regardless of the fact that it essencially injects more volume into part of the line, slowing it down that way, it also injects more 'viscous' volume if that makes sense. More people who will slow things down just by inexperience.
This is just my prediction based on my generalized "skier-type per wealth bracket" based on my observations that may or may not be totally wrong. I'm grateful I am not skiing at any mountains where Fast Tracks is a thing, but I doubt it will truly add that much extra line time most days.

At my home mountain every chair passing gets filled for the most part when there’s a big line. I don’t really agree that noobs will be slower at getting through the fast pass line / that being an improvement.
So a politician pandered to voters, big whoop. I saud it in the other thread but the defense will be the same as Alta and snowboards. The resort may not own the land but they do own the lifts and can manage them and charge for their use as they see fit. I get it, you all don't like it and I don't either but the local elitism thing is getting ridiculous on this.
we won’t even need politicians in Colorado. I’m gonna be such a douche to the ppl who use this that I will singlehandedly ruin demand and destroy the program in its entirety

Lol how is it cancelled? A senator saw the PR value with his constituents and this issue and wrote a letter. Unless there is some state law requiring equitable use of chair lifts (would love to hear if this is true) then I believe absolutely 0% of POWDRs plans changed.

Honestly felt as weird as the dude that was working on changing the size of corduroy. Like just stick to doing whatever you do.
I hate the idea of fast pass but i don't see how a letter from this senator is going to impact it at all. If they want to do it they will.

its been a thing at copper already for many season but okay lol
Are people trying to make skiing truly affordable and accessible for all or just for themselves because we're tired of paying premiums for passes? A lot of this issue reeks of "Speaking on behalf of the poor so that I can get a good deal and not wait in lift lines."

Lets just abolish ski resorts all together and be done with the whole thing
eheathI'm actually kinda impressed by the amount of people getting upset about this, outrage culture is so ridiculous.
One of the sacrosanct rules of skiing is to never cut the line on a powder day. I'm not surprised people are pissed, it used to be the guy who wants it the most would wake up the earliest to be first chair, now it's going to be the richest guy first, that's pretty lame.
I mean it's not the hill I'd want to die on, I don't care enough to do anything about it, but I'm kinda thankful for outrage culture and people out there being outraged for me. Odds are they're wasting their time, but it's not costing me an ounce of energy and in the end there is still a tiny chance I might benefit from their outrage, so I'm all for it.

People have been paying for early access to Powdr resorts for awhile, pretty sure early ups at snowbird have been a thing for at least a decade.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this has no effect on the "first chair" process, it's just like the ski school lane ya know? But idk im so over the "powder panic" of trying to beat everyone to the mountain, someone always wakes up earlier.
People have made me hate powder days almost lol. I agree, its almost not worth it these days. A bunch of people cracked out on coffee and pow hype ready to line up like its friggin black friday. It isn't worth it.
I get a couple ghost town pow days every season usually. At least 1 good one.
For the most part i just like spring. All the douchey jerry or instagram nerds are getting ready for summer, the snow is nice, everything's open and nobody is there. I feel like people want to be at the mtn for the pow day more than actually skiing it. Pow days are like coachella, it's more about letting everyone know you were there for than anything else that happens.
noahwoodford1Let’s go! Hopefully Colorado and Utah follow suit. It’s nice to see a politician listening and doing something good for the outdoors.
I don’t see anything changing in Utah. If anything this will encourage more resorts to implement something similar because it’s going to boost revenue with little cost to the resort. Politicians are only getting involved not because they care about the sport and want to make it more accessible. They simply see some people complaining about an issue and see it as vote gaining potential. It’s a nice gesture but I doubt we see any change in making the sport more accessible, just more exclusive to those with the money.
To me it seems like just charging extra to use the singles line... which has always effectively been the 'fast track' for years at many places...
the concept of a fast-pass is nothing new, really... I remember when Booth Creek first installed IC card gates that allowed you to bypass having your daypass checked and charged extra for it... now thats just the norm at basically every ski area and wicket tickets are dead.
either way, the biggest problem is that day passes are outrageously overpriced and season passes being the commitment they are simply makes skiing so much more exclusive and unattainable for the average person... Its not great for the longterm health of the sport or the communities that support it
Couldn't care less if 20 people cut me in the line because they paid more. This only benefits the resort, in turn benefiting me with upgrades to infrastructure. I applaud the fast pass.
You guys don't buy fast pass at Disney and other amusement parks? It's the same thing. I hate lines. Hate hate hate lines. Whatever premium I need to pay to avoid lines, take my money.

I’d agree if the money was going towards mountain infrastructure. Bachelor has multiple lifts that break down and it’s busiest lift is only a 4 seater. I doubt that POWDR will put this towards new lifts or lodges or paying workers more. Most likely they’ll pocket the majority of it. Hopefully I’m proven though.

Lol the disney fast passes were free get educated bro. Only the new lightning lane thing they just started costs money, and theyre getting tons of criticism too
there's a petition going around Utah social media feeds claiming Snowbird went against utah business code and was deceptive in their offering of this pass by not giving anyone else a notice earlier in the year that this was going to be a thing. Interesting.

Meh, the same thing happened when Solitude switched to paid parking and nothing came of it

I'm genuinely curious to see if it holds any water honestly but yeah, when you compare it to paid parking it's really not that much of a huge difference, and yes, people eventually gave up grilling Solitude over that.

I just don't want to fight crowds.
This is why I loved skiing at Schweitzer. Its overcast and poor visibility pretty much every day in the winter and especially pow days its typically snowing pretty hard so even your own tracks disappear by the next run. Snowbird on the other hand...
As to those complaining about the Fast Tracks. I have skied at CO resorts that have had them for years and they really don't materially make much difference in line. Most rich tourists that use them only ski the base lift for like 4 runs then drink $8 hot cocoa at the lodge the rest of the day. I dont think I have ever been at a back side lift and even noticed it. If you guys want to pick this as a hill to die on then whatever but its all in all it really doesnt make that much difference to your actual ski day.

Im hoping that the storm skiing will protect Schweitzer for the locals, most people aren't willing to ski on the bad weather days. I was scared about the Icon pass making the place too packed but I honestly think it will mostly be affected on sunny days which are few and far between anyways.

Lol Schweitzer has tried to become a "World Class Resort" for over 15 years now with grandiose plans like ultra rich lodging with heli pads and dumb stuff like that but at the end of the day rich people just wont fly into Spokane and drive 2 hours to Schweitzer for a vacation, especially if they have to risk bad weather or visibility.
That being said, will all the transplants into Spokane and CDA the resort definitely has a lot more crowding etc but that is a different story.
ASAPCarterBig fan of the singles line personally, partially because it’s faster and partially because I don’t have any friends
I have met some cool people in the singles lane for sure. Hell, I have even been skiing with my buddy and we will both rock the singles lane just to get more laps in.
Fast track benefits the rich and takes away from the not riches time. That’s jacked.
Maybe it cuts a whole lap off your day. Do you really want to take that? By the end of the season, depending how much you ski, it can be like you missed multiple full days worth of skiing. Heck with shorter lift lines you can get your “ski fill” quicker and get home faster.
I think if this isn’t concerning to you then you should value your time more. Super rude to create this kind of system

That’s what I’m saying if everyone is like this the resort won’t be able to do anything about it and people will fear buying the fast pass

It's not that expensive it is not an elitist thing. A lap a day is meger compared to how many days you will get over the weekend warrior trying to smash laps in on his only trip of the year.
can we also get other people, maybe pros and owners of businesses in the industry, to do this? Because he is a politician, he has to talk about it from a human rights point of view but peopl in the private sector can make the argument he omitted--that it is literally just shitty for the culture and directly spiting the dedicated locals who uphold the resort's legacy and keep them alive.

He wakes up every day and chooses violence. jacksonisrucci-- the vigilante the skiing community needs
theabortionatorIsn't alta on public lands and still not allowing snowboarding?
I'm not trying to dive into that but just saying i don't see this going anywhere.
Both Snowbird and Alta are on public lands and have leases worked-out with the necessary authorities and yeah, seeing as how many other larger issues that canyon is about to experience as well as the plans on the docket for that, I think government agencies are staying away from getting involved and putting their efforts towards more important things (I.e Gondola vs. Revamped transit system up the canyons.)
What's interesting about Alta is that this season apparently, depending on how busy it is up there, they will be charging for parking in lots that people normally utilize to access public lands and go BC ski as opposed to being a day skier up there so no matter what, utilizing public lands or not, you still have to deal with their operational shitshow and sometimes pay money for it, though its not much. Id be more salty about being denied access to my public lands due to some backroom deals worked out vs. some rich gaper getting like 2 more extra laps than me.

Can you imagine messing with the fast tracks lane like tying a fishing line across the gates to trip people or putting some material on the snow that skis won’t glide on…

People are hating on this deal in Bend (Mt Bachelor)
Here, check the online petition results so far. Pretty impressive.
I doubt it will change anything, though.
