Replying to Snowboarder looking for Park Ski's
Hi all.
I am looking for a general direction on what to look for in ski's.
I am old! (52), but pretty active. I Snowboard, Downhill bike, BMX at the skate park, skateboard, inline (aggressive), rollerskate (aggressive), etc. All about intermediate skill level.
I skied a lot as a kid, but got into snowboarding. Then moved away and did not get on the snow for a very long time. Back home in BC Canada and had a great season snowboarding last year.
For snowboarding, I like park stuff (rails, jumps). Note, I said "I like", not "I am good at!"
I rented some ski's last season just to give them a go. I did a few jumps and was really tempted to try a rail.
We bought a house in Vernon BC. We are 15 minutes from Silverstar. We will be up on the mountain 2 or 3 times a week.
There is a lot of lingo and info that I am not too clear on. So, looking for some help to get me going on my hunt for ski's.
I don't want to spend way too much money, but at the same time, want to get some reasonable quality stuff. I would buy some used ski's for the first season if I can find anything.
I ride a Ride 158 snowboard with vans boots. Note, I ride switch about 35 - 40% of the time. This has a traditionally camber.
I started with boots. Got fitted, and learned a lot. I ended up with Dalbello il MX 90's. This was mostly due to fit and flex. They are 27.5.
Now ready for ski's and binding.
For all round skiing / riding, I don't go fast. Like jumps, tree line, and park stuff. I am sure any sacrifice I make for park ski's in general all round skiing will be fine. So, looking for something that is better in the park, but can still be used for general skiing.
So, important stuff.
Location: PACIFIC NORTH WEST (INTERIOR BC TO BE SPECIFIC)
Me: 6 FEET TALL, 180 LBS, 52 YEARS OLD.
Ability: LETS SAY INTERMEDIATE (WELL BY THE END OF THE YEAR!)
Budget: DON'T MIND PAYING FOR GREAT SKIS, JUST DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT I WANT! SAY MAX $1,000 for SKIS AND BINDING, BUT PREFER TO STAY UNDER $650.
For what: I want to hit MEDIUM JUMPS, ride INTERMEDIATE RAILS. I ski fairly SLOWLY and really just like to MESS ABOUT. I do want to ski FAKIE.
So, what will help.
Length: I am 6', snowboard is 158. Would probably prefer short rather than longer.
Width: No idea.
Camber: Probably traditional (normal), but don't know.
Bindings: No idea what to look for.
If you guys could let me know WHAT THINGS TO LOOK FOR for in ski's and binding, that would be very helpful. Some actual suggestions on specific ski's and bindings would also be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Ben.
