This past week has been nothing but new heat records in Vancouver. Do you guys think it's caused by carbon emissions or just a heat wave? We've been reaching as high as 40°C.

It’s caused by all these sinners smoking devils lettuce and not going to church.
It's caused by carbon emissions causing climate change, which leads to more heat waves and other weather extremes. We're fucked. Imagine what it will be like 50 years from now (when I'll be in my late 70s).
mystery3They revised the reading up to 46.6*C, the highest temperature ever recorded anywhere in Canada.
That is fucked up. Being from the California Valley I have felt 46 on occasion in my life and it is a fucked up kinda hot... and we have air conditioning in every house in California... I bet there are plenty of places in B.C. that have never needed air conditioning who are straight up roasting in this.
A friend of mine in Van Island had 43c on her dash thermometer. Shit is just absurd.
My partner and I managed to snag a portable AC from Canadian tire last Wednesday before everything went bad. Holy hell we have it cranked and it can barely keep up. Construction sites are shutting down for the day, schools are closed and the water is too gross to swim. Stay safe my Van fam, It's bad today. Wont be shocked if we hit 50C.
Canada seems to get really fucked by heat waves for some reason. I remember Nova Scotia had a really bad one like 2 years ago, a couple people died in their homes.
The planet is getting warmer, exponentially, annually.
armchair_skierWhen I went to southern AZ, the highest temperature we ever saw was like 118f. Seeing temperatures exceeded that in Canada is fucking surreal.

Lytton set another record today at 47.9C just for reference the hottest ever temperature in Las Vegas is 47.2C according to the CBC article I just read.
Where did you grow up? I'm from the Bay Area/Peninsula/Silicon Valley...a lot of the older housing stock in the more temperate areas don't have A/C but I've spent more than enough time in the greater Sacramento area and also the Southern Santa Clara Valley, shit gets HOT!
mrk127The scary part about global warming and climate destabilization is that this might be the coolest summer for the rest of our lives
I’d say in the future, like 10-20 years from now, these heat waves will become far more frequent, but the average summer temperature won’t drastically change; yet.

DesertStixJust normal Arizona summer temps
Normal Iraq/Kuwait temps.
Crazy thing is your body gets used to it.
I went to Las Vegas in July a few times years after my deployments and while watching the group I was with being just miserable I was just chilling.
Here in Minnesota we had a stretch of upper 90s a couple weeks ago. Abnormal for that time of year. My grass is brown and crunchy. We're in a drought right now.
New record highs in Oregon too 110+ in Portland and along the coast then hit 107 here in bend today. shits brutal it was 90 degrees on hood and bachelor past few days as well which doesn’t bode well for the future of Palmer in a few summers.

Im from the Delta near Sacramento. but really the entirety of the northern valley can be a damn furnace. I have felt 115f and 116f in and around Redding before, and it was fucked up hot. Growing up with days consistantly around the 100F mark was the norm.
This heatwave in Canada is even more outrageous because normally summers barely crest far above like 30c up there, and here they are breaking over the high temp records of places like Sacramento and Stockton and Modesto California which regularly see summers where the daily high temperatures will stay above 30c from May through September... Its wild shit.
That is absolutely fucked up what the hell... That is 121 degrees Farenheight.
Last year LA County had a record temperature of 121. Canada is breaking the same temperatures as Los Angeles only a year after... What in the actual...
That’s hotter than Vegas and Phoenix which are in the desert. Absolutely fucked.

It was 119 last week but right now I’m just chilling feeling bad for the PNW. We got AC and are accustomed to this. I read like 78% of Portland has AC or something. FAK.
DingoSeanThe hottest temperature ever reliably recorded in Phoenix is 122F(50C) set in 1990. Just 1F degree hotter.
The hottest temperature on record in Vegas is 118F (47.8C). Lytton SHATTERED that with 49.6C (121.3F)

Oh man, youre in scottsdale? My aunt lives there.. we went there a few times for xmas when I was growing up and my reaction to 88 degrees farenheight on Xmas morning was always 'Thanks, I hate it'
I'm in Tokyo where its been hovering between 25 and 30C for the last month, but July and August get repulsively hot here... between 35-40C with a million percent humidity. Im just glad theres an AC unit literally right above my bed.
Unfortunately, yes. I somehow managed to build my adult life around this hell hole. I grew up in 70-80% humidity and would trade it for this sun beating any day

In Seattle we had three straight days of 100+ temps. It's only been above 100 degrees three times in the last 100 years. 44% of the city has AC. It's been pretty insane.

Yeah that’s the difference. We EXPECT 3 months of 100 and above every year so we have hella AC, work schedules shift around the heat waves, etc. but the 119 high temp days are absolutely miserable. Can’t imagine doing that without AC.

Isn't it like... Arizona law that structures need to have Air Conditioning? and even a back up air conditioning? like.. every house in my Aunt's neighborhood had an airconditioning, and a 2nd small air conditioning just in case lol
I’m sure. I don’t know of ANY structures without central air. You just wouldn’t be able to go inside of them for 3-4 months of the year. My AC bill will go from like 30-40 bucks in the winter to 100-140 in the summer. We can’t legally go outside at work when it’s over 100 per department of health and safety.
