Difference in Look Pivot bindings?

I was looking at corbettes and they had the Look Pivot gw 12 binding on sale but I'm wondering if there's any difference with the other pivot models like pivot 14, 18 other than din settings.

And should I get the gw 12 or the 18 forza for 70 dollars more

The 12s and 14s are plastic, but the 15s and 18s are metal.

12 and 14 have plastic toe pieces, while 15 and 18 have metal ones. Heel pieces are identical except for the din values.
Plastic toe piece allows more travel and is lighter while metal ones have less travel but are bombproof and heavy

i'm 5'7 close to 5'8 135 lbs and I'm still growing, for 70 bucks more I can get the pivot 18s. Should I get the 12 or 18?

18 gonna be too high din for ya, I’d say go with 14 or 15 in a cool color

i cant get the 14 or 15 in cool colours cuz they're out on corbetts.com so I'm thinking although I don't need the 18 dins it has the forza 2.0 and for 70 bucks you also get a metal toe piece so I'm not sure which to pick

You would have to run the 18s at atleast 10 din which might be sketch depending on how hard u rip, why are u looking at just that website? There’s plenty of options, including other sellers on NS

im in canada so its convenient that i dont pay extra for stuff in the us and the people reselling pivots near me rn is really overpriced like 300 for new when corbets is 200

The 18s have a din range of 8-18, there seem to be a lot of mixed answers about if you can safely run a binding on the lowest din setting...that being said 18s would be overkill for you imo. The plastic toepieces on the 12s/14s are still pretty bomber

Because the minimum is 8 and you are not really supposed to go within 2 din of the min and max because it becomes unreliable

I’m 5’8” 165ish and I run pivot 12s (technically fks 120) on 9. I have had no problems. I can think of two times I’ve been kicked out of my bindings in the past year. One was in mash potatoes and I stuck and went forward (thank god my heels released). The other was when I overshot a jump in flat light conditions. I had actually dialed my din down to 8 that time because I was being sketched out and stupid about other stuff.

I think you will be fine with 12. I tend to ride my gear pretty hard and I’ve had no issues with 12s. I will move my din between 8 and 10 depending but usually Im right around 9. Pivot 12 is a stronger binding than people give it credit for.

You've mentioned GW randomly in this thread here and there. Do you know what type of boot sole you have? Don't buy a GW binding if you have alpine soles.

This is mentioned all over the place in FKS/Pivot threads - if you have to ask if you should get an 18 DIN binding, you don't need it.

Other way around. GW stamped bindings are compatible with GW & alpine boot soles. Strictly alpine bindings are not compatible with GW boot soles.

i've got full tilts and i dont quite know what the GW means Grip walk I'm guessing but it shouldn't really affect anything will it?

cause right now i have tyrolia attack 13's 2019 and they fit my boot fine.

GW means gripwalk. Usually pivots have a screw you can turn to move the height between alpine and gripwalk

agreed

i hate dumbasses who spread that rumor. i know multiple lightweight skiers who kill it running their 18s at 8. from a technical perspective, the company would not allow an 8 mark on the din indicator if the binding did not perform there. now if you keep unscrewing the adjustment screw lower than 8, thats another story and set of issues. din release tests generally support this, but there is a little bit of variance.

It was my understanding that gripwalk bindings fit both gripwalk and alpine soles. I could very well be wrong, or maybe the screws allow them to fit both bindings

They fit both because you can adjust the height between two presets

18's will work fine for you on a low DIN, and will work with your boots. You don't need 18's. Almost no one "needs" them. 12's will work just as well for you.

so bought some 14s this year for the first time, all my other pairs are 18s or 15s. While they are still great, I don't get the same feeling of confidence that I get from the metal toe piece. The click in feeling and dampness are for sure different. Def going to hold onto my 14s but if I have to buy another pair in the future I'll go back to the 15s.

I hear you. I used to get 14's, but now I get 15's and 18's because I kinda "feel" the same way, but have convinced myself it is mental. Whether or not it is I don't care, I'm sticking with metal toe pieces.

But if you look at the toe on a GW 12 or 14, you can see where the screw for the WTR/Alpine would be

I think 17/18 or so was the last year they had it but I was referring to how you can see where the dial used to be. Looks like they kept same molds.
